Yes, the bolts definitely need a trim, i was waiting for Terrain Tamer to give me an “ All good “ on the install before I started chopping brackets.
I have had her since early Sept I think. Seems longer, as I have spent every spare moment working on her. Love it, but it is and will continue to be a learning curve for me, and I would give a body part right now for a garage to work in. View attachment 4018835
How much experience do you have owning & driving “older” vehicles?
Anything with leaf springs will ride very different than modern vehicles.

When I called with this question, Rourke said this same exact comment about the fixed pin and the wrap…it’s burned into my brain…fixed pin..fixed pin. However, I did have a pin to perch problem. It was off by less than a 1/4”. With no way to even begin to budge the axle or the body, this worked GREAT…a few simple twists and it dropped right in.

That’s typically caused by hydraulic pressure in the slip yoke of the rear drive shaft.
Simple fix?
Unscrew the zerk fitting on the rear drive shaft. Wrap a rag around it to catch the grease and proceed with the install.
Just make sure you put the fitting back in before you hit the road.

I used to own a 1952 Ford Popular. Almost the polar opposite to the fj40 in vehicle type…but, drum all round, 3 speed also. I will get a second opinion from someone who has more experience than me. I think it is fair to say that it should be reasonable to expect a positive difference ( regardless of degree of change ) pre and post installation.
I am confident I dont have that positive change. The ride is the same as pre install, of that I am sure.

So, your military wraps were installed correctly?

Shackle angle pics would help narrow down or eliminate a few things and the French office will ask as well I’d bet.

Went back and found a reasonable shot of your shackle angles, also can pretty much tell that your springs are oriented correctly.

This angle isn’t great, but it’s not the worst. The others look as they should, albeit, not broken in.

Did you grease the shackles? They look pretty clean.

The shackles were not in those pics but are greased. TT France have requested measurements from Center of rim to fender. They say that will give them what they need. Fingers crosssed.

If your impression of the ride was on non-greased shackles that might be the issue.

I’d be really interested to know what that particular measurement has any bearing on with out the previous measurement and even then…

Also, not sure if this was asked but what shocks are you running now and have you verified they are correct (right part #).

From an earlier post it looks like the Terrain Tamer shocks via the TT kit.

@Nebula Thug what springs and shocks were you running before? Also, not sure if this was asked but what shocks are you running now and have you verified they are correct (right part #).
As far as i can tell, everything was original from 79. The replacements are part of the kit and the correct part number. TT have asked that I check the torque settings of the shackles and pins, which I’ll do today. Apparently I shouldn’t be able to over tighten the shackles, because of the shoulder on the bolts that prevent it. The pins could be though.

We just worked on this beautiful FJ43 for our buddy Matt.
He’s performed a ton of work on this cruiser and brought it to us for some of the items he wanted us to address.

Rides great on the Terrain Tamer parabolic suspension!

Whoa. That's the highest I've seen a 4x series sit with these.
What size tires are on there? Maybe optical illusion from 28s lol.
Optical illusion …… small tires.
