Thank you- 33x10.5 KM3, on new OEM Steelies. Electric Power Steering, Dakota Digital, Vintage Air Gen V, ‘86 2F w/ Sniper. Firewall, Frame, Underside and floors media blasted, rust repair/new sill. Metaltech Stock profile cage. I’ll do a build thread if I can pop up long enough for air.
That’s a fantastic “spec sheet”!!!
I would not change a thing. And it looks fantastic. Nice work.

Thanks for help with this one, Georg. Still have some of the previous owners touches on it as well. I’m not very happy with how the Gen V kit fits. Will be tinkering with it to get it up to sniff. Performance wise it’s awesome but fitup was a chore with significant trimming of both the evap plenum and the lower dash pad. Those with EPS will not be able to use the DS plenum.

I have them on my 62 and they’re fine.

Discovering that I wasn’t the only one, how they treated the other people I know of, the gaslighting (I have all our email correspondence and it is damning) and ultimately how the parent company blew us off even with proof is just a sh!tty move. In this case I vote with my dollar and speak with my voice.

Actually it is the first time I read something negative about Dobbinsons stuff.
Bought recently the Dobbinsons complete kit for my J45 Pickup future resto. Should I worry about it?

PS. Happy to hear that you have them on your FJ62 and are fine...

I’m inclined to think there was a bad batch that went out for 40’s. Several of us had the same or similar issues and as I mentioned earlier, they admitted to, then backtracked, the issue.

Hopefully you’re all good.

Well damn. That's depressing. I was about to do this kit with the EPS myself. I was planning to order parts next week. Glad I saw this first. Not being able to use the DS plenum is a deal breaker for me, so it's either Saginaw steering or try to find a Gen IV kit somewhere. Read about springs, learn about air conditioning. This place is great. Long live Mud!

I’ll be using a slimline vent in its place.

How’s the ride?
Kind of perplexing, and reason for posting the pictures. The rides hard, initiallly i thought i had a spring pack for heavier loads than i ordered. That’s not the case, so now I am trying to see if anyone can spot an error on the install that will explain it. Terrain Tamer France are going to look into it tomorrow hopefully, sent them the same pics.

Oh, that’s right. Doh.

Nothing sticks out as “wrong”.
I wonder if the packs are sticking together?

I’d try to flex them as much as possible to get them to loosen up.

I don’t see anything wrong with the install.
You may want to trim your u-bolts but other than that, everything looks good.

How long have you owned your FJ40?

Do you know what really got steam coming out of my ears during the install, i could not figure out for the life of me what you do in what order to help with aligning that little nub on top of the pack with the hole on the bracket.
It was an utter nightmare for all 4.
No doubt there is a process that makes this far less painful than I made it. If I do need to remove and re fit, for whatever reason, going through that again does not fill me with glee.

As for the “bedding in” of the parabolic springs, i would be with you on that if I hadn’t read so many other posts raving about the transformative ride quality straight off the bat.

Yes, the bolts definitely need a trim, i was waiting for Terrain Tamer to give me an “ All good “ on the install before I started chopping brackets.
I have had her since early Sept I think. Seems longer, as I have spent every spare moment working on her. Love it, but it is and will continue to be a learning curve for me, and I would give a body part right now for a garage to work in.

The trick to springs is jacking up one whole end of the vehicle (front or back), leaving the shocks connected and installing the fixed side first. With the axle hanging you can easily pull the pin into alignment.

Short of installing the springs backwards, having the shackles too tight or having too short of springs (bad shackle angle) the only other thing I could think of is they are stuck together or something.

I got a bad batch (as did others) of Dobinsons springs so it can happen.

Could you take a picture showing your shackle angles better?

Also, the military wraps are on the fixed side, yes?

I see my man Georg chimed in.
But let’s see those shackle angles anyway.

Did you assemble everything loosely, then tighten everything once it's all in place?

Oh no…..
The wraps are the front of both sets, front and rear. Me thinking the point of them was to avoid the spring dropping straight out on some sort of hardware failure. So is that it ? The smoking gun ?

Scratch that, military wraps are on the shackles at the front, but I’ve ballsed up the rear. I need to reverse them.

The part that wraps around should be (unless for some reason it’s different on TT) on the fixed/inboard pin. Not the shackle/outboard side.
