Terrain Tamer Heavy Duty hub seals: anyone use them yet?

Interesting idea. Hopefully they work well and have a reasonable service life.

Love to see a seal like that for the front diff on 100 series L/C's (for the CV's).

"You can call the shop if you have any questions"

Maybe call up CruiserBros directly (if in the US) to see if they still sell them??

"They are a little stiff to spin right out of the package. I’m hoping they will loosen up with grease!"

FWIW I tested how much torque it took to rotate just installed rear axle hubs (80 Series) with new Terrain Tamer HD Hub seals
with no bearing preload (yet) and it took only one (1) lb of force, and that includes the newly packed wheel bearings and hubs,
so essentially nothing.

Point is, the Cassette type seals seem a bit tight if you try to rotate them by hand but it doesn't cause a problem, better for a tight seal. I pushed some grease into the small gap of the cassette seal before installing but they do appear to be pre-lubed so probably not necessary.

Curious if any long term users of these seals. Any feedback?

@orangefj45 - still carry these? What is your feedback on these seals?
Yes we’ve kept these in stock since Terrain Tamer introduced them.
We’ve installed a number of sets and they’re great. Zero issues.
Turns out a lot of the mining companies and military contractors use them
On the 70-series cruisers and they’re holding up extremely well. Much better than the stock seals.

Georg,
Can you post a link to them? I am unable to find them on the site.

We would like you guys to try these to get some end-user feedback. We’ve installed multiple sets here at the shop over the last couple of years since these HD deals were released. These retail at $54 each.

Happy to do a “mud special” ….. if you buy a pair of the seals, we’ll include a free VH T-shirt and we’ll cover shipping within the US.

A Mud Special sounds awesome. Can you provide a link and required code? Will try them out.

I'm in for two.

I can give you all the feedback you need – these are great seals. Overkill for road trucks, but still, great seals. As I said in my earlier post, I used these when I designed off–highway drive–steer axles. We never had a complaint from a customer when they were installed correctly.

I would have been up for it, but I just rebuilt both axles. 😉

Not a long term user
We have a lot of sand in Kuwait, combined with a hub seal leak and chronically loose bearings in the 80 I've inherited means worn seal hub seal surface on the axle.

Converting from grease to oil bath exacerbated the issue. Even with rand new hub seal and (HIGH) bearing preload, the hub seal would still leak oil even after a one mile drive. Thought id try the terrain tamer HD hub seals before escalating the situation.

Didn't leak so far at 120+F weather on oil bath bearings. It's a winter only desert car so won't see a lot of miles but we'll see. Pretty impressed so far - saved me from either fixing the hub seal with epoxy or getting an axle from the scrapyard with probably the same issue.

@orangefj45
any more long term feedback? I am probably in the market for some of these seals
Terrain Tamer have had these available for some time.
Roothy put them in one of his rigs and put lots of miles on them ( harsh environment to say the least ) and he’s a huge proponent.
We also sell lots of these to the mining industry, which is possibly the roughest environment. These land cruisers are exposed to. They only run our seals because they are so much better.
