73 tank is bolted to the body.

Surprised me too. The 78 is bolted to the frame

Part of why I did it was because I didn't have the room to have it on stands. You do kinda need room to have the frame and body separate.

I can roll it in the corner my self now, and roll it out into the middle when I can work on it.

gumby, on your rotisserrie, when you are flipping the body over, does it want to overspin or get dangerous, can you flip it half way safely?
how did you figure out the balance points for attachment, etc.

your project is flying compared to mine...good work

I'd like to say I did a ton of measurements and math and figured out the perfect balance point, but it was a lot easier than that. I used the vertical flanges where the inner fender bolts for the front, made them as long as possible to spread the load and ran the angle iron from side to side from the ends of those. Then I mounted the head of the engine stand to the middle.

On the rear I used the tailgate stay holes and again made them long to spread the load, but here I set the weight down on the front stand and picked up the rear with the hoist until the rain gutter was level. Then I built the bracket to mount the head there.

It does like to sit flat, but one guy can spin it with a 2 foot pole through the end of one of the heads. The heads have a locking pin to stop it from rotating and one needs to be used in every position except flat. The bottom is certainly the heaviest part, especially without glass.

Nice work gumby.

I hope to do all the body work on the rotisserie except I might have to build another jig to hold everything square when/if I stretch it.

After driving the wife's FJC tonight I sure wouldn't mind putting one of those under the pig and it has the same wheelbase as the pig.

Something like that would be perfect.

It's a bit pricey, but I expect that truck to be within $500 of that if the damage to the drivetrain is minimal.
Shipping would kill me though.

There's a FJC in LA coming up for auction with 14 miles on it. Anybody in LA with a dealer's license?:D

Wow. You've done a lot since last week when I saw it.

The "Stupid Pig Tricks" are hysterical.

Nice work all around.

Cut off the outer rocker panels yesterday. Found more wasp nests than I'd ever seen in one place. 'Root's gonna have a homeless wasp problem in the spring.

Debating making rocker panels or buying them. Anybody have experience with the purchased ones? Are they just the outers or the whole thing?

I'm also trying to figure out the rear corner stuff. I wonder if I can make a wooden buck to shape the corner on.

The one from IPOR are just the outer skin. very thick and durable but just the curved portion. Since you are extending the pig you will most likly have to order 2 sets, then cut and paste them together to get the right length. If you do that I may be willing to purchase the remaining portion for my pig extension. Lance at IPOR recommends going to your local steel yard and picking up some 4x4 box tubing and cutting it into 2 sections diagonally. But he says not to cut them corner to corner but just off. So that the rolled piece of steel will weld right up.,

I have yet to try it but it looks pretty close.
