Beautiful work. I think you just created more work for me. My wife looked over my shoulders while I was looking at your dash and said "is your dash going to look like that, that looks nice."

Sigh....time to start collecting parts...

I want to make sure we get this straight before it goes any further, Scrapdaddy is the king pin in this pyramid scheme and he clearly started posting pictures of his work before me. I’m simply in the same boat with the rest of you trying to catch up.

Scrapdaddy’s pictures have impacted my budget of money and time by a factor of 1000% not to mention I have no skin on the backs of any of my knuckles, burnt holes in all my pants, overspray on everything I own, I think I may becoming an alcoholic, my yard now has rusty pig’s and parts scattered around, my shop looks like a war zone and I walk around all day with this silly grin on my face. Thanks Ron!

That's so funny! Thought I was the only one walking around talking out loud about pigs. I've gotten to the point of saying good night to it, when locking up for the night. I really should get some therapy.

Sorry for wrecking the budget, but if helps any, my Wife says I owe her a 1/4 million!

In all honesty, I truly enjoy all the builds going on. So many different ideas and styles, from stock ones like Pablo's to Landcruisnman's wild ride. We have a lot of talented people on here, so ice up the beer and buy a box of bandaids, let's get 'em done.

1968 lenses I'm talking about.

I will most likely end up making molds for the for both the grill and side lights lenses but I will definitely not be getting into the 55 lens reproduction business.

Would be up for taking orders? I am striking out on the grille lights. I have one more possibility...

Question - does the amount you owe her go UP the longer you are married, or go down? Still trying to figure out the secrets to successful marriage...

(Besides keeping the Barry White music queued up - Oh Yeah!)

Made some progress on the rack, I welded all the tabs and mounted the IPE wood, now I need to trim all the ends and seal and paint the steel and hope to get this installed by mid week.

Thanks to davegonz and Tatat for talking me into using wood instead of steel for the rack deck, I think I’ll like the look of this wood once it’s all together.

Man that is going to look great. Love the wood, will look right on the rig... May have to do something similar in the year 2046... :) Keep the inspirational work coming!

Awesome. Are you going to to paint the rack? I'd go with silver/light grey (maybe even chrome) to go with the old school look.

Thank you!

That does look good! How thick are the wood strips? Works well with your style rack. Good Job!

Thanks Ron,

After weeks of searching for local suppliers I ended up buying the IPE from Advantage Lumber, http://www.advantagelumber.com/decking2.htm

It started out as 1" X 6” but I had it milled to ¾” X 2 ½” , I don’t know the technical term but they cut all four sides and bevel the edges for me. The issue was the only place that I could find willing to do this process with IPE was in New York so shipping was almost as much as the wood.

Man that rack looks good!

Thanks,

For now all the exterior parts that are not body panels are slated to get Cerakoted a dark charcoal grey but if time permits I might look into other color options for the rack. :worms:

So, you should be able to stand on it, if the need arises, right. I thought about that wood for my front porch, but not too long! :)

I believe you can sand it if the need arises but I’m hoping it will be fairly maintenance free. The guy I talked to on the phone from Advantage lumber was telling me IPE is wood they use on Coney Island Beach & Boardwalk and they typically get about 25 years of constant traffic and weather before they need to replace, very good chance it will outlast the pig up on the roof.

Ipe is some good stuff. Pretty much the hardest wood out there. Great choice for the basket. If you don't mind me asking what did it run ya?

I meant, walk on it, carry your weight. Stand on it. :)

Yes I see now that I should not reply until after I read and understand the question. To answer your original question yes you “stand” on the wood deck, I don’t remember off the top of my head but the IPE had exceptional strength.

It was around $300.00 delivered
