US wheels are cheap, they will make them to any backspace you want. Order through Summit Racing and get free shipping.

Wheel Vintiques is a little more $$ than US wheel and not quite as easy to deal with on the phone but they too will make custom backspace and you can order through Summit racing.

Toyota hub cap is the biggest issue using an aftermarket wheel but I'm looking into making an adaptor.

I really wanted this new Toyo tire, unfortunately Toyo had to temporarily shut down for the Chicom Flu and is trying to just fill back orders now.

If you want to go super budget like I'm doing take a look at the Kendas

JMack, reading thru Nolan’s thread in Tires and Wheels Tech and some local research seems 8” width is minimum recommend width for 35/315 tires. Sure with local hook-up exceptions to this rule could be made. I’m looking at Wheel Vintiques 16x10 rims for same Steelie with hubcap look on my FJ55. Now you got me thinking 17”
I’m specifically looking at tires that measure as close to 35” tall and about 11” wide as I can get, most of the tires I’ve looked at in this range have a 7”-7.5 minimum rim width.

My goal is to get all of the tire back under the body with a tall skinny tire on a narrow rim.

Some tire sizes I looked at.

275/80R17 Equal 34.3" 10.8" 17"

35X11.5R17 Equal 35" 11.5" 17”

285/75R17 Equal 33.8" 11.2" 17”

35X10.5R17 Equal 35" 10.5" 17”

Everything else starts getting too wide for what I want.

I used this site quite a bit for comparing tire sizes.

Awesome info. Thanks JMack.

@dogfishlake can chime in here. He did this with the Wheel Vintiques I believe. Basically grafted the rear retaining portion of a Chevy? cap that fit those wheels onto the top portion of the Toyota cap. It's a pretty slick process and I want to try it on some 16 or 17 inch wheels

You take a Wheel Vintiques baby moon cap, and saw the bubble out with a cutoff saw. Take the Toyota cap and remove the inner liner. Then tig weld the ring to the toyota outer cap. They fit pretty good, with a little bit of lip around the edge revealed but you can't even see it.

I'll dig for some pictures

These popped up when we had an FJ Cruiser, might be of interest. A little bit like the fifteen 52 wheels, but have a hubcap.

Thats about exactly what I'm trying to have made, now I need to see what it's going to take to get some in the US

And figure out the back spacing, my Japanese is a little rusty.
Yeah, thank god for pictures...

I had no idea you were fluent in the dialect!?!

These fj co wheels are cool. Aluminum and can run factory hubcaps. 16 inch. I have also cut and old hub out of an oem wheel, used as a template to drill and mount new hubcap clips on oem split rims. I've also run 35x12.50 tires on oem 7 inch rims no problems. Thanks Mike
