Goebs; intermitant is probably a bad ground IMO...white with black tracer is the ground to that junction; got a used UGLY used junction strip that is starting to delaminate...BUT in one piece.......took the connectors apart took a dremel wire brush to them so they were polished metal then hooked everything back up and:bounce:working nicely,,,,,,,,,you might also check the ground that comes into the strip! HTH

Lou,
When I stuck the test light into the power up by the front pedals, the fan for the motor started. I follower the wires up to a relay where the fan and rear motor share a relay and power. Not sure why the fan kicks on when I grounf the blue power further down the line. I am all confused now. Might be time to separate the powers and grab fresh power for the window motor....

For that door safety switch...just put a tie-wrap around the plunger so it thinks the door is closed...

The white/black wire IS the ground. And it grounds through the safety switch
The blue wires are switched hot, blue/white being "up"...

Goebs, you are on track......do you have an electric schematic for your pig?; it would be a great help; sounds like there is a short when you turn the key switch and the fuse blows......you might disconnect the ground wire to the junction strip; isolate it and place a light to it with a ground probe; if when you turn the switch and the probe lights up then you have your answer; your ground wire is hot:eek: and you will have to back track to find where the wire has been reversed/crossed over...... HTH:cheers:

Here's the rear window schematic for a 78 - shouldn't be any differences.

Hope it helps

Goebs; just trying to get a feel for what is going on; when you mention the fan kicked in when you stuck the test light into the power up by the front pedals, do you have a radiator fan added on? or is it the he blower box fan?

Lou

Harry, do you have the other side of the schematics showing the fusebox?.........:hhmm:wonder if that might be where the problem is;

Lou

Here are schematic sheets 2 through 4 for a 78 piggie. The power for the window is tapped from a WL (white w/ lavender trace) wire coming off the "B" post of the alternator and is protected by the circuit breaker - there's no fuse in the circuit.

Hope this is what you were thining of Lou.

Goebs; another option is to start by checking the fuse, it should be a 20 amp. at position B-10 supplying current to the tailgate relay....smaller will blow....then trace the power supply to the switch on the panel; the one you use when you are in your drivers seat; I can never make sense of what is a remote control or non remote switch; i have to deal in simple terms HTH

Lou

I have an electric fan that runs when I turn the key and while the motor is running. I am sure it is a 20 amp fuse cause I have replaced it several times while tinkering. When I mess with the gate key the fure blows.
I am going to start at the switch and see where I can get power. I am going to un screw them from the block and run power through them and see if there is power all the way to the tail gate. Not sure if this is the right idea. I need to solve it or simply put the glass back in and call it a day. I am trying to solve the a/c connection plumbing so I can wheel the thing without getting dirt in the compressor. I need to do a shake down run..
Anyone know where to find a 2004 v8 tundra motor a/c compressor set of lines?

Goebs

Goebs, is this an aftermaket radiator cooling fan?; this kinda adds another twist to things; the fan motor will spin as long as there is current going in either wire; assuming it is a two wire set up; then if the wires are crossed with the tailgate motor switch then when you try to use your tailgate key.................bam, another fuse blown!; might take/unhook your cooling fan off the circuit and try the tailgate key and gate controler see if the fuse does not blow; if it does not blow then you have to reverse the wiring conector to your cooling fan.HTH

Lou

Lou,
How do I find his contact info? I have seen his name mentioned here and there but don't know where to find him.

Goebs

nah i don't have a part number...sorry but it is called a wire block and it is for a 1968 fj40...one mounts to each of the front fenders in the engine compartment

dear god Marshall....is there anything you don't have:D

I don't have them. I saw them in another thread I started in the 40 section similar to the "OEM parts in stock for 55's" I did here.

When I saw it I emediatly thought of this thread.

Alsways trying to help my fellow pig friends out.

I love spreading cruiser Karma.

Just wait, I have something in the works that will completely blow your mind.
