Vinyl wrap the roof and lay it right over the sunroof? That would be pretty leak-proof.

I think the bigger issue is what to do with the big hole in the head liner when your done with the out side 🧐

I've been thinking about making a sunroof delete for 80's out of aluminum that fills the hole and converts the hole in the headliner into a storage area. There's quite a lot of room in that space when the sunroof is removed.

The aluminum can be type3 hardcoat anodized so it will outlast the landcruiser.

I've got a 94 so I'd just be replacing the entire headliner.
I have 94 also and the headliner is in excellent shape.
But I have never had issues with my sunroof leaking, rattling or anything.
When I used to smoke I really liked it. Now it’s just there.
For me no reason to remove it.

Ideally finding a replacement cassette is the simplest solution for me. Mine has multiple hail cracks anyway, they never caused leaks though.

It would likely still result in having to replace the headliner though.

That's a lot of coin for a $20 piece of flat sheet.

I was thinking it should atleast have attachment points? And might as well do something with all that wasted space. Could put all kinds of stuff up there and lock it up. Might even be room for a rifle.

@kelly saad mentioned working on a sunroof delete panel recently

Thanks! I could replicate the sunroof panel I made on this, but I will be making a sunroof delete panel soon that bolts into the existing sunroof brackets. This will be offered for sale on my website. I am considering offering it painted to match the factory code too. I have already designed some of it and need to complete it soon.

No, it will bolt in and use windshield urethane as a seal. The sunroof unit will be completely replaced by this panel. Also, I am designing a storage unit to go there, so it isn't a hole in the headliner.

It wasn't uncommon in a separate hobby to just attach a plexiglass panel to the roof with urethane and rivets. Keeps the visibility out of the roof, makes it lighter, increases headroom. But in most cars that people do that roll cages are also added. 😅 Typically not terribly concerned about putting a factory headliner back in.

In the 80 ideally I'd be trying to replicate the factory design but without sunroof, so welding up the holes from the rack and the sunroof, then rehanging a headliner with no sunroof. For awhile I was trying to find the brace that goes across where the sunroof would be in a non-USDM vehicle but that has proved nearly impossible. I've pretty much given up I haven't really picked up trying to see about sourcing something to use instead.

Sounds like a great idea.

I feel like Gold Emblems have been making a comeback. But that could just be a niche market that I have accidently tapped in to.

I do agree that they should have optioned a poverty package and should similarly offer that in the 250. Because the 1958 ain't it.
