each spring pack not each leaf. you think they have a dude with an anvil and some calipers standing by for when an order comes in?

So you think adding one more leaf is going to solve the problem of a spring pack built for a different weight vehicle?

Leaf springs have differing thickness, length and curve. Obviously to make a proper progressive rate spring pack, you need a stack of leafs that continue to increase resistance as the entire pack is loaded. Adding one extra leaf to make up for 2 or 3 inches of sag isn't going to work unless you add one really thick heavy leaf - which means the pack is going to have s***ty performance. That's why add a leafs suck. If that's what the OP wanted, why would he pay for a custom leaf set? Why not just add a thick leaf to the stock pack?

And yes - they in fact do have a dude win an anvil - unless they just took some random pictures to put on their website...

i stand corrected on the anvil :D

if there was that much sag, it's possible they left a leaf out or that the problem could be addressed by replacing one leaf with two, or any number of options. we don't know, because the op didn't give alcan any opportunity to diagnose and troubleshoot the problem.

funny s*** goofboy ...
<all we have is the OP claim of the extent of the sag, and i am still waiting to see the pics.>
yes, depending on where the leaf is inserted it can make a large difference.
but
i will bow out to your obvious knowledge of spring construction and spring pack configuration.

Well, since several of you think I'm 100% at fault for this entire mess, here are the pictures of my rig (bone stock) immediately after the Alcan springs were installed. You don't even need to look at the springs... the sag is so bad that you can easily see the entire motor home tilting severely to the drivers side. Even the "light" passenger side springs did not provide any lift whatsoever, they were completely flat. Here's the proof that some of you wanted, maybe you will believe me now.

I know from personal experience that one leaf can make a difference of an inch or two. That's from performing spring overs on 3 different 40s. With 30+ year old springs.

no doubt you needed to contact Alcan with those pics as soon as you took them.
not two days after shipping.

what springs did you end up running?
pics of the truck now?

your truck looks like a 2" lift on the passenger side,
out of curiosity, did you happen to count the number of leafs in each pack?

pics of the truck now. I went to a no-name spring shop in California who did an excellent job building my new custom springs. There definitely wasn't a 2 inch lift, it just looks like it because the drivers side was a negative arch.

compared to the those rigs running around here sure looked like it ...
anywho, you paid, you played ... next time you will know how to play the game correctly.
still a cool looking ride, no matter how you cut it.

Is that a custom built bumper?very cool looking IMO.

Yup, it's a custom built bumper by Badland Bumpers around Seattle, Washington. The owner Jeff does fantastic, super quality work. I'd highly recommend one if you are looking for a solid front bumper & don't want to throw down cash for an ARB. Has more protection than the majority of the other rock crawler bumpers, but is still $200 cheaper than an ARB.

I have to say for the first time ever, I am jealous of your motor home! I never knew such a vehicle was built

Hey, alaskacrackhead

you still haven't answered the question as to why you weighed the vehicle without all the fluid capacities topped off. Did you tell them you had that big fxxxin' box hangin' off the ass end? Did you tell them you planned on adding an additional 75+ pounds to the front with that bumper? My guess is no.

I'm guessing everything was full when you put the Alcan's on, said to yourself, "Oh, s***. I fawked that up.", and decided to bash a perfectly reputable company rather than admit that you're a dumb fxxx.

Have I got that about right?

Bogus one... First off, why don't you go back and actually read the posts before personally offending me. You obviously missed that the alcans were put on the rig BEFORE I did anything to the rig (bumper, box, etc). You also didn't read that the tanks were empty and the water tank was only 1/2 full. Even so, it doesn't matter because I told alcan I was going to be adding all of that weight before the built the custom springs. Learn how to read before you attack someone

You don't understand what I'm saying.

You should have weighed the vehicle with ALL the tanks full, added in the anticipated weight of the box on the back, bumper up front, gear inside, etc. THEN told them what you had.

Learn how to read before you attack someone

:hhmm: someone needs to learn to give the correct information before going on multiple websites and attacking a company.

sadly, AC bounces between accepting blame to it isn't his fault.

in the end, he paid the price for his ignorance ...

original poster may only be half the problem. as mentioned, alcan should've asked for weights on all four corners...old owners did when they built my springs and i loved them.

that doesn't make him any less of a ass for joining two forums specifically to badmouth a company.

7k was a poor guesstime i'm guessing. a quick search online shows toyota motorhomes having a gvwr or anywhere from 6200 (2wd)-6900 (4wd) lbs, now add one person and you're over the 7k limit. in his blog, he guesstimates that they added 1500 lbs at one point.

ignorance on the part of both the poster and alcan is no excuse, i hope it gets resolved. i have no issues with alcan and if anyone asks, i'll gladly tell them to buy their springs. this thread hasn't dissuaded me all.
