Update Part 2

So last weekend we went down on Friday and picked up the 4.16 case, twisted TT rails and new flanges from Clutchee.

I got up Saturday Morning and was called to action with "I wanna put the new rails in the T-case"

So I cleared off a spot on the bench and put the Mrs. to work.

Now I am not braggin', but she did a pretty d*** good job getting things apart.

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1370_zpscc1ec7fd.jpg.html

Inside the case, gears and bearings were immaculate, did find this little bit of interest.

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1373_zpsd7ed898d.jpg.html

Yep, one of the case bolts had apparently broken off and had been drilled and helicoil'd I think. I broke the "second" bolt off in the same place and after a quick chase of the threads, I found a short bolt and loaded it and all it's friends up with anti-seize when I put it back together.

I did end up doing a little modding on the factory fork to match up to the new TT rail. Good, bad or indifferent, we will see how it all works out.

So after I put it together for the second time I was satisfied we were good.

Then I went to work on disassembling the rear drive-shaft. I managed to get all but one of the old caps out with my new press, but one just would not give up. Well lets just say my grinder has saved the day a couple times now.

That little bas***d was just not going to go easily. Unfortunately for him I have more than one weapon in my arsenal.

Then the Trail Tough cradle came in and after I picked up some new 10.9 hardware I got it all bolted in and ready to go.

It rained on Sunday so I took off that day. That should get me up to this weekends festivities, stay tuned.

That brings us to Today!!

Well now we are up to this weekends fun....

So the Mrs. had a birthday party to take little bit to yesterday (saturday) so I decided to get the rear springs in. Hannah helped me put the new Energy Suspension bushings in the new springs before they headed out. (see "Team work" a few posts up)

I got the shackle ends off with little issue, but on the frame ends of both springs the thru bolt had decided to marry itself to the bushing sleeve, which was formed into the bushing.... Enter the trusty grinder and the sawzaw and I finally got the rear springs off.

Good thing these are not going back on

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1395_zps8b0ecad9.jpg.html

The new OME springs are "supposed" to be for spring under applications, so I had to swap the spring bolts, then out with the old and in with the new.

A little side-by-side.

And back on all 4's yesterday afternoon.

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1403_zps433670d4.jpg.html

Mrs. and I had dinner reservations for our 7 year anniversary, so I quit at 4 yesterday to get cleaned up.

Today I started by pulling the drums and running down to O'Reileys to have them turned.

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1407_zpsa37abd44.jpg.html

They weren't too bad, still have plenty of life in them. And then back to work and a quick coat of Mrs J's Favorite color.

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1406_zps37c9d8bb.jpg.html

While that was drying I went ahead and rebuilt the rear brakes with new wheel cylinders, shoes and hardware.

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1405_zpsd11da5b0.jpg.html

Then I threw those awesome drums on to finish up the rear brakes.

I also picked up some straight brake lines with ends already attached and started on the axle lines. I fubar'd up the short side, but the long side turned out OK.

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1408_zps73412c6c.jpg.html

I threw the tires back on and filled the pumpkin and when I spun the tires I realized that this

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1413_zps95634568.jpg.html

Had to be swapped to this

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1415_zpsdbd41a71.jpg.html

because the lugs were rubbing on the ends of the bolts. I also noticed that the tires are really close to the springs, so I think I am going to pick up a set of wheel spacers to throw on there too.

And then I rounded out the day fighting with rebuilding the drive-shafts. New joints on both ends, but I ended up pulling them apart several times because the needle bearings kept getting bumped and falling out of place.

After about an hour and a half (but seemed like FOOREEVVEEER) I finally got the rear D-shaft all back together.

http://s84.photobucket.com/user/mrtucker80/media/SAM_1412_zpsf4b7ea4c.jpg.html

I did some measuring and decided that with the addition of the OME springs, I am going to have to pick up a set of D-shaft spacers to keep things from separating. I also think one of the rear shocks is shot, but that can probably wait until after ACC.

I wanted to get the case swapped today but my little D-shaft fiasco kinda zapped me, so that will probably be one night this week.

And with that I think you all are up to date on where we are.

This week I hope to finish up the new brake lines, get the t-case swapped and get things in place for me to be ready to go to work on the front-end next weekend. (Springs and knuckle rebuild)

Stay Tuned!!

So what was the problem?

Looking good! Shocks are overrated by the way. I ran with 3 last time, Nick only had 1 on the Franken-80, and a number of other MUDders have lost/broken/etc shocks lately. I'd def let that wait til after.

What they don't come with worm gear clamps from the factory?!?:hillbilly: What I am really curious about is how did he get that crazy bend on the rear of what looks to have once been an overload. I mean it takes some serious skill to put that kind of bend in a piece of spring steel.

Thanks, Yeah, that is back burner for now. They are just barely long enough with the OME springs, but will do for now.

It took me 4 hours to install a couple lights and bend my shifter so it does not hit my Tuffy. How do you get so much done?? :bang:

Turned it around? Painted it back tan? Took the front apart?

Yes, no, Yes!

Swapped t-case in, finished rear brakes and installed drive-shaft. Picked up a new battery and took it up the street and pulled it in to start on the front end.

Then tore down the front and installed new front springs and bushings. 12 hour day over, tomorrow I will start on the knuckle job... I have pictures, but I am to freakin tired to post them. I will leave you with this one, this is what the old t-case looked like when I went to drain it.

Sorry my phone seems to want to turn it sideways for some reason, I have some good ones I will post later when I get the card out of the camera.
