Squirt (formally Brownie) gets a new Mom and Dad - Erin's Sami Build

Yet another good reason to swap it over to Yota parts ASAP. :wrench::)

Yeah, that is on the to-do list, but I figure we will try and break the sami axles first. Been looking into VW diesel swaps also.

You got a pair of early 80's axles you don't want to haul to the PNW? :)

80 axles are too big IMO. I'd stick with the mini stuff and keep it compact. :steer:

Early 80's (year not model) axles is what I meant. I want a pair from the early 80's so they are both the same width. Don't want an IFS width rear.

I used to know a website that had Toyota»»VW engince adapters. Basically to put a VW motor in front of a Toyota driveline. I can see if I still have it in my favorites somewhere if you'd like.

Sorry, I don't. I sold all my axles a long time ago. I do have an empty rear housing though if you're at all interested. Might be better off just waiting around for a built set to pop up for sale, but if you're interested, you'll get a screamin deal on it.

Like Steve I have a 1983 front you welcome to but it does not have knuckle , hubs or spindles. Does have the 3rd member and some where I have the inner axles

Thanks guys, I actually have a complete 83 front in the garage now, been saving it for and SAS on my mini, but it may go to the sami cause. I actually may know where I can find a narrow rear but for now I will probably let it ride,

If I go VW smoker I will probably just stick with the zuk trans and t-case, but who knows what will go down between now and then.

I see complete SFA mini trucks for sale down here all the time for 500-600 bucks. Sometimes missing the drive train but still have suspension and axles. All the good stuff.

Let me know when you're ready and I'll keep my eyes peeled. :D

Update from Low"I'm not sure I could find my @$$ with a stick and a Map"Range Off-Road.

I took Sam's advice and I finally said screw the emails and I called them today. So the guy says "Uh well it looks like we should have those springs in a couple of weeks and we will be ready to get your order out to you" WTF!! So far I have heard, end of last week, first of this week, and now looking like 2 weeks out.... How the hell do you do business like that. If you don't know, pick up the phone and call your :censor: vendor and see when you will be getting them.

I mean I know the world is not absolute and things change, but the appearance is that these guys just make **** up to tell people.

Anyway, I told the guy that I talked to that I wanted my other parts now and he said, "Uh well we will need to charge you for that shipping" Ok, I understand it is a separate box so I guess I am ok with that, but I wanted to say, REALLY, you have been jerking me around for a week about some springs and now you tell me that I am a good two weeks out on them and you are going to hold the rest of my order until they get there and I only know this because I call you to ask about the **** that I already paid for and in the calmest almost stoned sounding voice you say, alright man that will be $12 for the shipping, ready for your card info whenever you are.....
:bang::bang::bang::bang::bang:

Rant off...

So our stuff will be here Friday. No springs for at least 2 weeks, but at least I can get the rear end buttoned up.

Moral of this story, buyer beware of Low:censor:Range OffRoad

Edit: And unfortunately, as I mentioned earlier, they are one of a handful of Samurai parts slingers, so I will most likely order from them again, but I will definitely be mindful of their s***y ability to do order fulfillment and will follow every single order with a phone call.

Geez... Really making me glad I don't own a Zuk! :/

Sorry for your woes.

Thanks, and yeah s*** happens. I just was pretty pissy yesterday because of it and once it is up and going I will probably be less on edge, but I got a little over a month to get this thing trail-ready and not having the parts available is very frustrating.

I would put them at the bottom of your list and try somebody else until your options are exhausted. Sound like JT Outfitters used to be.

Hey bud- never meet ya but maybe I can help.

If you need Zuki stuff call up Trail Tough for products.

Fellow who owns the place won the unlimited class in rock crawling- on back cover of crawl mag.

Great vendor & really honest fellow.

Also if you want a lower gear case- Ive got a 4:16 case from my buggy sitting in floor not being used.

Let me know if I can help- im in Chapel Hill south of nashville.

Hey, I have heard your name dropped around the fire and would love to meet you. The way the GA guys talked I kind of figured you were from down around those parts. Kind of cool that you are from Chapel Hill. You aren't a member of the Lions Club are you? We usually try to make the Superpull at least one night each year. (If you are sick to death of it, sorry for asking)

I might take you up on that 4:16 case and appreciate the Trail Tough recommendation. I spent some time on their site last night looking around and will probably be sending some $$ their way. You going to make it up to the GA ride at windrock this weekend? I was planning to, but have some axle parts coming on Friday and I am kind of torn on weither I should try to get the rearend back together along with sorting out some other misc things instead. Gotta have it ready to wheel in November for ACC.

If you wouldn't mind , PM me what you would need for the case, outright or with my old one as a core :) Also, STLCA, well mostly me and Kevin are going to try to get an October meet together, in either murf or franklin and would welcome you to come have a beverage with us.

I stopped by Essentially Off Road here in town this afternoon to talk about some sliders. Our lead time even though it's nearly 6 weeks isn't proving to be enough time to get them here and installed. So I went to see them and they said it would take 2 days max and would be $350 installed! Heck yeah! They are going to make them the way I want and said they'd be tougher than anything from online. He did explain that with the bolt on that every time you hit that point it would make the body bend and then you'd have to continually tighten the bolts. So the welding will end up making it much stronger than just the bolt on. I should have thought about that but didn't. It's gonna be sweet. :bounce2:

Got bearing retainers in today as well as the new door handles and spring bushings, but no springs  No concrete ETA on them either... Anyway, we are going to try to get the wheels back on it tomorrow. I picked up a set of drive-shafts earlier this week and thanks to my new bud clutchee, we will be dropping a 4.16 case in there a little later this month.:bounce::bounce2::bounce: That little jewel may need a Mighty Kong Case cradle to lock in between the frame rails. :hhmm:

So rear axle and doors are on deck for tomorrow and maybe if I have any daylight left I might try taking another crack at putting the SHROCKWORKS bumper on the 4Runner.:bounce:

Also, as the Mrs mentioned above, I got tired of effin around with LR and so we started looking around the inter-web and then I remembered that we had Essentially Off-Road just down the road and so I threw it out at her and she said she was going right by and would stop and talk to them and maybe try to get the "hot chick" discount :D

So now I am glad I happen to think of them and now I am thinking I may get them to price a simple cage for the rear, but mostly I am looking forward to throwing a few ideas at them and seeing what kind of bumpers they might be able to fab up for it.

I found the one below last night and would like to see if they can price up something similar. Might also be incentive for me to get my 220 wired up :hillbilly:

Whatever you do for a bumper, you should def remove the stinger "bumper" thing that's on there now.

Yeah, I know it is hideous, but it may have to make the inaugural run because I am not sure that after I get it trail ready I will have time or $$ to get to them before ACC.

I actually have been studying on that one I posted earlier and I think it is a Shrockworks unit that has had some tubing added to it to form the stinger.

My goal for that thing is to ram it into a rock for removal. It's not welded on very good so I don't think it'll take much. :hillbilly:

Squirt got her drivers side do today. I think she's gonna have attitude! You can also actually open the door from the outside and roll the window down now. It's really the little things. Hubs did a good job as always while I mowed and scrubbed some nasty tree sap off baby girls outside toys. Ready to see her back on all 4's tomorrow. Really itching to drive her.
