Thanks Mike, appreciate the tunes!!

I was hour from home putting some gas in the pig when guy came up and was completing her. It was raining and I hadn’t gotten out of the truck yet but guy asked if I wanted another?? I was little confused but said “what ya got”? He then proceeded to tell me about one probably 15 miles from the house the wife and I have been driving by on way to track last few weeks. It sits in a pasture behind locked gate in middle of nowhere so odds of finding out who owns it pretty slim.

Cruiser Karma kicked in and guy gave me the sellers number who I talked to shortly after. The wife and I gonna go check it out in couple weeks. I seriously doubt it has much I can use looking at some rough pics.

if anyone driving through Vale, OR there is white 55 amonst some other old cars on SW side of the high school stadium. I was trying to get to hotel to sleep and saw it too late to turn around.
need pics when you ck it out-parts-parts-parts

Who here has done disc conversion? What axle did you use and I assume its best to swap both front and rear? Doing some reading I ran across post saying 76+ is best which makes sense since that's when the 40's got front disc's but is there a preferable year?

Anyone have a pig with H55 swap behind a 2F? I am curious about the fit and required modifications with the tunnel as I want to drive this rig and prefer to get some things done asap.

The Pig has sat a little bit with its 96,000 miles and she is blowing a little white smoke and could probably use a Carb adjustment since getting her back to the mountains but to say I am clueless how to do this is a understatement....

Initially was thinking to suggest just changing everything from the knuckles out, but I’m not certain that later Birfields will spline to early inner axle shafts. If they do not, then you’ll have to swap out the diff also to be compatible with the later shafts, which at that point, you might as well just swap the whole unit.
Maybe someone more familiar with the earlier (1969) can verify...

*also*, if you sourced a 60 axle, the knuckles out would work, but the inner axles are longer and the diff ratio is 3:70

Figured I would reach out to Classic Cruisers to see what they had in the way of a front axle replacement and how much that would set me back. I am off this week so tons of dreaming and lining up some items after I make room in shop!

Talked to Lew at Allan (super nice). Looking for 2.5-3” lift and he says 7-8 weeks till done and little over $1300. Planning on little extra weight for camping gear.

Seems like quickest and easiest would be a complete axle replacement from a 40 or 55 donor. Brandon has a lot full of 'em at Classic Cruisers. Have them do an knuckle service during the install and you should be set.

FYI told my body/paint guy he might be getting a call from you.

Perfect I’ll touch base with him. Kinda like a new animal the pig and I have been out on side roads getting to know each other.

Is the speedo cable still available as mine is dead in the water. I am guessing not but I am going to crawl under and see if I can unhook it and clean it up some.

Anyone know what a fair amount is for used front axle to disc conversion. Classic Cruisers has one from a 76 55 for $1000. I simply have no reference if this is a good prices since I will be rebuilding it.

Probably the best you’ll do with a Cruiser used parts supplier. You’d only do better hunting around for one from a private seller.
Yep, I am not driving too far for a axle after my recent travels. Around Steamboat it is slim pickings for things like this so Classic may be my best option and no shipping as the wife is really wanting to go down and walk around their yard.

Made some calls today and a got a quote on the H55, waiting on Split x-fer case. Reaching out to Mosely motors for Sniper set up. Alcan springs provided the quote just over $1300. Called paint/body shop in GJ where I hope to store the Sow this winter. First thing is to get new axle with front disc brake installed for safety.

That $5000 isn't written in stone is it, I mean I can go couple dollars over it????

I sure wish I had it tagged today. The wife and I are going out on the town for early dinner for our 25th anniversary which was yesterday but we were at track meet. She would have gotten a kick out of taking the pig out on the town.

With that kind of ambition, it’s pretty easy!🤣

You’ll also have to get park brake conversion for the split case.

FJ60 power steering conversion

Bilstein shocks

The sky is the limit!
I like your thinking. Personilzed tag per the wife is going to be "Sow 25" since we bought it for our anniversary. Where is this parking brake conversion kit sold?

I have the electric PS on 2 other cruisers and love it but the 55 is gonna require the FJ60 conversion. I don't want to make it too nice, the wife won't ever give it up!
