Toquerville Falls is 5 miles (20 minutes offroad) and a great remote spot to camp...there are a handful of options along the BLM road there, including right at the falls. The HQ does have a ton of gravel parking, and even a little grass - remind me to turn off the sprinklers :)

Best Western and LaQuinta in La Verkin are 10 minutes-ish away.

If you are thinking of "extending" the visit, Zion Natl Park is 30 minutes from our house, and Gooseberry Mesa is a premier MTB area and 30ish minutes away as well. TONS of hiking options around here, Kanerraville Falls is lesser known, but one of our favs and is 30 minutes north.

Sunsets here are okay...this was from our front door Saturday...

The radio tower view....this IS a campsite...the HQ is in the pic somewhere.

Buggy pic, but this is much of the OHV view....State Park camping around the lake, the HQ is 10ish miles due N (top of pic...which if you squint, you can see the radio tower campsite in the above photo...lol)

damn! im wanting to drive back out there....id have to crash the party one way or another. The 60 or id need to put the top back on the 40. I was actually looking at hiking across the grand canyon last week of October so I may be close anyway if it works out.

Following this and after having just attended the other 70 series meet and greet I want to add that if the trails that are chosen are being frequently traveled by families in 2 wheel drive yaris and other corolla's I am out .

On Friday we drove around on gravel roads where you really do not need 4wd cars for and especially not the kind that has lockers and all other overlanding gear,Saturday the group got split up and some of us went wheeling,a bunch of the guys that need lockers on their rigs still went of driving 2wd gravel roads while the last guy in our group followed us on the trails in his stock 1970 something open open FJ40 ;) Needles to say we all had a blast on Saturday !

Just my opinion but 70 series are very capable trail rigs so I would be up for trail rides not just the rounded up cattle feeling and talk about what your rig can do in theory ,let's go out and play with our toys!
I'd have been out with you guys had I not had the kiddos, and a visit of a radar site was awesome!

Im glad the groups split, agree that some of the folks were wanting some harder trails, i thought it was a good mix for those that dont have sliders and the lift that some of the bigger folks had. I totally hear you though, it would be good to have a mix for these type of events, but understand people driving for quite a distance with trailored built vehicles. I have no problem riding with someone until i get some sliders and armor. :-)

What are the trail ratings for this event?

Similar to Moab conditions.

If I had it to do again, I would have split the group on Friday also. (Hindsight is always 20/20) :)
It's a little challenging when you have a group that varies from "very experienced" to "no experience".
Hopefully every group found something that appealed to them. :)

Terrain is similar to Moab, OHV rules are 100% different however....

I can run my buggy on 39" stickies on the same trail as our BJ74 and be equally challenged....this area is unique in that regard.

And with 60k acres in UT adjacent to 100k acres in AZ, there are tons of options.

So how about the stock FJ40 running on open diffs and 31" tires that went with us and did the complete trail flawless ?

Joe, Thank you for the compliment. It is appreciated, but it is not deserved.

However, don't forget that section on trail 22 that gave me fits and the everyone else cruised through with a lot more grace. As I recall, you described me as a mountain goat bouncing around unpredictably. :steer:

This was a meet-n-greet.

Friday was our opening opportunity to meet and get to know one another on expedition type trails.
Saturday was about playing on the trails with our new friends.

It appears to me that we just executed per planned objectives.
Kudos to those that planned / sponsored / attended. I had a great weekend. Thank you

While I can comment on the 40 Series' off-road prowess, that thing is a speed demon on the interstate. :)

Thanks for your kind words. Don't sweat the criticism. It's from folks that haven't planned an event and tried to ensure all the attendees have a great time, regardless of experience.
Hope to see you next year!
Peter

A there is no criticism on the organisation of the event just a dissapointment in the type of terrain that is choosen to drive on. Cruisers are capable cars and the way we used them here is like bying a high dollar marksman rifle and then shoot baloons from 10 ft away.

B I have been involved in organizing events in Europe long time ago and I know it is impossible to please everyone,I am keeping it now to visiting events .

After reading the posts from the previous meet and greets I was assuming that there would be more and more difficult trails to be done in group.

My bad but to me it is not worth 15h one way drive to then do 20 miles a day on gravel roads.

It was nice meeting you all and I had a good time after the trailriding on Friday and Saturday was real good but besides of meeting you all I do not feel the 30 h drive in total is in balance with the few hours on trails where you meet locals passing you in a Yaris ;-)

Joe, Never took your comments as criticism. Rather they were obviously honest thoughts shared between friends with a healthy spicing of humor.

Is the Falls access off-road trailer friendly?
