Take the pump to BZ Rebuilders in Canoga Park (or ship it). They do SORs. If it's a long drive for you, take it in, go have lunch, and it will be ready when you're back.

If it's a 35 year old pump you've got your money's worth out of it.

I've had multiple pumps rebuilt there

he recommends replacing smog pump as otherwise CAT will die

anyone have any ideas how long it can be driven before cat dies ?

@fjc-man i accelerated on onramp - heard a click - friend says that’s when belt tore - didn’t hear the squeak- as temp heated up got off highway

was no melting rubber smell

everything happened it seemed in matter of minute

back home now

I'd get the smog pump repaired as soon as you can; It helps keep the Air Rail cool. Like I said above, B-Z Rebuilders is very fast, let them know you'll wait for it and they'll do it right away.

You can drive as long as you like without PS, but eventually you'll look like this:

I just don’t want any damage done to the car due to no smog pump
