So you wanted an overhead switch panel? (2 Viewers)

Homelink and Lexus link. Could be done with the sunglass holder too I'm sure. This is with two placeholder switches to the right.

I put a 07 upper console with the homelink in my 99. I was going to do a switch panel on it, but I liked the sunglass holder too much. It will only work if you can get the depth of the switch panel thin enough. On the earlier upper consoles you can cut the inside to create more room, but not on the newer homelink versions.

Were you able to get the homelink wired up and working in your '99? I have an '06-'07 overhead console (with homelink) and trying to install in my '01. In the ceiling cavity above my old console I found an unused plug with 2 wires that must be for the optional garage door accessory available for earlier models. The homelink plug on the '06-'07 console has a bunch of wires, but it looks like some of them are also for the microphone. Hoping it is possible to find the 2 wires needed to power the homelink and bypass the rest.

Sorry for the non-technical description!

Should look something like this...

Pin 1 , Ground (-) , Black
Pin 2 , Microphone (-) , Yellow
Pin 3 , Microphone (+) , Green
Pin 5 , ? , Brown
Pin 8 , Power (+) , Red
Pin 11 , Navigation , Purple
Pin 16 , Illumination , Blue

You just need the red and black to power up the homelink. I tried to get the illumination for the buttons to work but was unsuccessful. Never figured out what the brown wire was for. I thought maybe it was the ground for illumination, but it still didn't work.

Excellent! Thank you so much! I did my best to read every other thread about the upper console and couldn't find that info.

I took out the circuit board last night and gave it a good blank stare for at least an hour to try to follow the circuits. Totally agree that black is ground and red is power for the homelink. I was also confused about the blue wire because it also seems to feed the homelink. Makes sense that blue is for illumination.

I confirmed in another really old thread (credit to fj55-100) that the unused plug on my '01 LC is for the optional garage door accessory. Blue/yellow goes to the domelamp fuse ,white/black to ground, constant on power fused at 10 amps. Good spot up in the headliner to get dedicated power for all sorts of cool accessories (radar detector, switches, whatever).

Will be completing homelink install tonight and will report back!

nice work

Really interested in installing the SPOD switches into my 06 sunglass holder. Has anyone attempted this? From reading it appears it has been done in an older 100 but not this gen.

Success! Transplanted '07 homelink in a '01 LC! Thank you for your help Matserelli!

I ended up wrapping red blue together and connected them to the constant on power source. Illumination works for the 3 buttons and red signal LED! Downside is the transmitter and illumination are always on even without key. Not the best for garage security, but just as secure as clipping a garage remote to the visor.

For those (like me) that need homelink and want to customize later with a switch panel, I hope it helps to know the overhead consoles are an easy swap.

Your welcome! I'm glad it worked out smoothly. Now that I know your illumination works I better revisit this project. :bah:

Final update for homelink console transplant for those that are interested. Was worried about parasitic loss from having illumination always on. Ended up using one of those plug-n-play add-a-circuit things to run 1 wire from fuse box up to the blue homelink wire. Tapped into the door mirror fuse which is activated by the ignition. Actual homelink remote is still constant on, but illumination only comes on with ignition.

Just got my illumination working! Was using the green wire not the blue.:bang:
FYI I ran the illumination wire to one of the rear side window switches so the homelink buttons would turn on only at night when the markers are turned on. (solid green wire if I remember correctly, all the lit switches have one)

dammit! I have been avoiding this mod long enough, but I think I am goin in! I Wish me luck! I'll post pictures Monday if all goes well.

did all go well? WHAT HAPPENED?! ARE YOU OK?! I have been WAITING since October! ;)

I ended up installing the SPOD HD panel into the overhead sunglass holder. It looks super clean and not too difficult to do.

If I install Homelink will a 40'x60' insulated shop with office and storage space spring out of the ground? I could use a place to do work :)

Just a heads up for those of you going through the effort of retrofitting HomeLink... check compatibility with your garage door BEFORE installing into your rig. The HomeLink in my ‘05 LX does not work with my newer Chamberland garage door opener.

Somewhere around 2011 the security code protocol was updated and the older transmitters are incompatible with newer garage doors. Found out the hard way after retrofitting a sun visor HomeLink unit into the sun visor of another car I owned only to find out it didn’t work with my new opener. You can, however, buy a “bridge adapter” that plugs into your garage and intercepts/translates signal.

Ok so I am working on knocking this project out, but I have a question on wiring the switches and I know mud can help. So I have all of my grounds jumpered together which is fine and clear to me. Also my plan is for the post 3 wires to run back to relays, which will then trigger the lights (or future other item). My question is on the + leads to posts 6 and 2. I have two options shown below:

actual pic.jpg

Option A has power coming to post 6 from some not always on power such as dash lights or cigarette lighter. All post 6s linked. and then separate + going to post 2s with them all connected.
option a.jpg

Option B: Similar to option A but with all 2s and 6s connected.
option B.jpg

I know @OregonLC had each post 2 individually ran back to presumably an always on power source so he could control which accessory ran off crank or house battery, which is a nice option I may consider since a second battery is probably in my future. But what say yall?
