To Ron, Yon knew it would not be a stock resto, Ok, I respect your point of view, In fact I have the same problem with my 8yo girl who loves my daily drive car but has difficulties to grab into it and thought to a handle to the B pillar at her shoulder height. I presumptuously supposed the idea could be shared.
To all of you
It is really a pleasant place here, where we can ask for advices, give our opinion, find solutions...even if I don't understand everything.
and funny for me to talk to people oversea...
Thanks Pascal

Pascal,

I welcome all the advice, I can get and do think about all of it. It is a pleasant place for me, also.

Thanks for looking in and I always enjoy the conversation.

I'm getting ready to do body work on my roof and want to add additional supports. Did you get yours completed? I couldn't find pictures.

Nik

Nik,

Noooo, I've been trying to get the dash done, so it can go to paint. I made the brackets that are welded to the body, which the roof bows will bolt to.

The bows need to be bent, to fit the curve of the roof and the only way I can see to do it is roll them. A Swag roller is @ $800 and I have a hard time spending that for five bows. I guess if a guy were good with a tubing bender, he could do it. I even built wooden bucks and tried to heat and bend, didn't work.

So, as soon as the dash is done, guess I'll buy the bender.

All five bows are a different shape, which adds to the mix. The bows will be made with 1 1/2" square tubing and two tubes will run down the middle and tie into the five bows. That will be for mounting the interior lights, etc.

Very cool for me as well to talk to people from "over the pond". And yes, I am sure the things we say/write do sound pretty funny at times.

Can't wait to see your next progress Pascal!

Hey Bob,

My regular metal guy, doesn't have a roller, but I thought you would need the right dies to roll it. What is a SLIP roller?

Ron, just a regular roller with 2 round rollers in front for the thickness and 1 in back to get your radius. Hard part my be the ends because the radius increases. The middle out to the ends wouldnt be be as bad. If you could heat and form the large radius then notch, form, and weld the tight radius by the pillars you should be able to get profile. If not send to me the patterns I will do it.

Thanks Bob.

What about a tubing roller from harbor freight? I bought one to put a slight arc in my roof rack bows.

They are cheap and come with dies.

These guys make all kinds of stuff to hotrod the Harbor fright tubing roller: http://www.swagoffroad.com/Tubing-Roller-Dies-Accessories_c_54.html

No progress now, Tried to rebuild the Ds rocker with much 10 cm parts, but it is bended , due to the heat of the welding, I have to find a solution. My Brain is heating...useless heating for the moment...
Surely I would need a tool to make the curve of the rocker, a bending roller?, but I don't know anyone who get one.

Hi Scrapdaddy, why not to use flat sheet metal to treproduce the curves, inpired with what I did for the gutter. Need much cutting and welding, not perfect as you usually like, but hidden under the headliner ...

Bob,

That's what I thought you were talking about, wasn't sure of the name for it.

Thanks for the offer, but I'd like to tackle this myself. Having the right tools, makes the job right.

J Mack,

I seen that one, I'd have to buy Swag's dies for the square tubing. If I bought the Swag unit, one set of dies comes with it. Got to figure out how much usage it would get around here. How did it work for you?

Tatat,

I know what you're talking about. My brain heats up, also. That's when I have a cold beverage! :) Good job on forming that corner.

A small update on my center dash. It was going good, until I started drilling holes in the wrong place. I can fix it, but shouldn't of happened. I don't have all the switches and toggles yet, but you can get an idea. What I still need are some type of dash light. Nothing bright, just to see the knobs at night. Everything ties in nice and is solid.

I took Pablo's advice and went with Gorilla tape on the glove box and gauge dash, I like to over build!

Very nice, unless ARB swiches which dont matchh OEM ones...

Tatat,

I'm not sold on the ARB rockers, yet. Need two more for rear fan, etc. I can get different colors, maybe green would look better. The holes are cut, so probably staying with them.

Thanks Bob.
