Finally finished reading your build thread. It was one of the first I stubbled upon after purchasing my first land cruiser, a FJ55. Like others said your attention to detail is amazing. I to am gonna be taking the same route as you as far as the engine, transmission, and so on. I already have the 5.3, and 60 axles. Excited to get started and glad I found your thread, can't wait to see the finished product!

Daniel,

Welcome to the group! You'll have to post some pictures, up in the new owners thread and introduce yourself, I've got a lot of questions for you. Thanks for reading through all of my build, I never thought it would get so involved. It's plenty of fun, if you keep it on that level, otherwise it can be plenty of headaches.

Good luck with yours and look forward to seeing your progress.

Thanks I'll have to do that later today when I get home. She's just a body and frame right now, not even rolling. But I see lots of potential especially since the rust isn't horrible.

And I agree that's what happened to my chevelle I bought when I was 16, now 21 and still haven't finished it. It's been sitting for the past year.

Not having any 5/8ths round stock, for the shifter, I started mounting the command center. I wanted all the electrical stuff inside, if possible. That required putting a BIG hole in the firewall. Made a cover plate and gasket, so it should be water tight.

I should have enough room for the fuse blocks, on the right kick panel. get all that mounted and start on the ac mount.

Got some 5/8ths rod and made my shifter. Pictures tell the story. You can see where I cut the stock shifter, right where the rubber sleeve was. Worked out well, until I super glued my figure to the rubber grommet, on the boot.

The knob is what they call a heavy weight, feels like a pool ball! Just need to get it powder coated and it's done.

Looks great!!

Looks like you started on the AC, how is it coming along ?

Thanks Guys!

I did start on the AC, but sent it back. Couldn't get over that shiny piece of alum. on the front. It serves no purpose and just didn't look right, for me. They're sending a new one without it. Cost me $65 for the shipping, but at least I'll be happy.

Making a mounting plate, that will bolt to the stock holes in the firewall. The plate will have studs on it, to mount the unit. it will fit very nice in there. Mounted the bulkhead for all the hoses. Small steps and bouncing all around. The engine oil cooler lines turned out nice, should help keep it cool and add some extra oil to the motor.

I don't want to whammy myself, but the painter says Monday, the parts start getting moved to his shop!!! Third time's a charm.

Tucker,

Thanks for the confidence, but sorry, I have it hard finding time to work on my own stuff. It was easy to make, after I ruined the OEM shifter!

Haha - I hear you man, hoping to clamp mine in a vice and cold bend ...

Tucker

If I had something stout enough to clamp it in, have a cheater bar I use(d. When work was prevalent) for coercing 1-1 1/2" J bolts that'd surely work, just not sure if embedding the shifter in a two yard concrete cube is feasible.

Nice work, Ron.

Pressure is on now! Most of my parts are at the painter's shop. Doors, hood, etc. and I'm not done with some welding on the body. It will be awhile before the body goes in, but I want to finish up some areas, I've been putting off.

Headliner bows... Started welding in my brackets, down each side. These will accept bolts from the bows and all be tied in together. I haven't bent the bows yet, need to buy a roller first. I'm going with 1 1/2 inch square tubing, which will be bent in the shape of the roof and be bolted to my brackets on each side, then two bars will run down the middle. Seam sealer between the bars and the roof, should stop any rattles. All gets painted body color, after some clean up grinding.

The middle bars will hold the over head lights, etc. All will be exposed, to be seen, but I don't mind the utilitarian look. :)

Then on to the dash. finally know how I want it, just need to start cutting, some more! Even though it will be modified a lot, trying for a stock look to it.

Here's some fun pictures. Delancy got me thinking about what rubber pieces were in all the boxes, sitting on the top shelf.

Wish I had more of these!

This pretty cool. Rusty Wallace Toyota

Hey Bob,

I can't take credit for any of it. All came from Gary, the PO. He was stashing parts for a long time. Right up by you, in Vermont.

I did get to buy this light from Beno, should get another one before they're gone.

These were in another box, anybody know from what?

OK, back to work! Made a mounting plate for the Ac unit. It came with it's own plate, but it won't work for us. So, mine bolts to the four stock holes, in the firewall and bolts up to their plate. Here's what I had to work with.

Now, I'm a 90 degree angle kind of guy, don't give me those modern looking designs. Here's what I came up with.

Worked out good. Need to clean up my cuts and powder coat. Sits level, which is important for drainage.
