Not sure if I can play this game because I didn't buy my FJ40 - my brother gave it to me in 2010.

My brother bought this 1971 FJ40 in 1973. The cruiser was originally purchased in Okinawa by someone in the Air Force and it was brought to the USA on a cargo plane.

1974 picture is the earliest we've found:

Much respect, you folks are making some amazing transformations with these old trucks. I don't think I'm worthy to run with this crowd, as I'm going in the wrong direction than the rest of you all. ‘95 likely the day I bought it ($1450)

Pretty standard for east coast condition, even 30 years ago.

Later that year, we moved to Missoula, Montana. Pretty sure that was the drive I learned to check the hood latches.

Now it’s a daily summer driver that occasionally does some hard work.

Teaching the next generation to drive stick. Might just be the last manual in the house.
