We just acquired a 1996 Land Cruiser II with only approx 40k original miles. Beautiful shape for the year and being in Honduras. Going to slowly build it out. Starting with getting some split rims and stuffing the largest tires I can get under it without rubbing. I'll load up some detailed pics in a few days.

I'm going to add a list of parts needed/wanted/things to repair:
1. Snorkel
2. Passenger seat (plastic part) to the lever that slides the seat forward
3. 5 - Split 15" rims & tires
4. OEM antenna
5. Build roof rack (like Front Runner)
6. Build rear ladder or foot posts?
7. Build bumpers (front for winch)
8. Build fuel/water mounts for roof
9. Rear door rubber boots to keep door from vibrating
10. Window switches need cleaning/lube (not working all the time)?
11. Redo tint and tint front window then.
12. Buy front hood Toyota emblem
13. Buff out front marker lights & blinkers
14. Extend exhaust to back
15. Replace carpet with liner
16. Figure out clang noise when shifting (sounds & feels like a broken mount)
17. *Install stereo
18. *Install alarm
19. Figure out what lift to get, buy & install it.
20. Find rubber boot that goes behind rear view mirror
21. *Install winch (once bumper is made)
22. Make/buy spare tire high lift jack mount.

*Already Owned

In San Pedro Sula we were looking for split rims and I asked them to try it on to make sure it fits. Well this is what you get 6 Hondurans :o to do the job. :D Sadly it didn't fit over the hub, so the search continues.

The car looks nice and clean!

Why do you want the split rims?
Is it just because of the functional part because of the bad roads?
I can imagine you have some bad roads over there, but still I don't think it is worth the effort.

I've driven a lot of bad roads in Asia and I only had flat tyres because of using a inner tube in a tyre that is not ment for it. (in new BFG's)
I was also using quite old Dunlops and they didn't have a flat tyre in 50.000km

^^^ Good question and I know most people go away from split rims. I want them for several reasons... I really don't like the bling of any aluminum rims (makes me feel like a poser), I really like the utilitarian aspect of steel rims, I greatly appreciate the option of "easier" field maintenance of split rims. I suppose just some OEM steelies would do if I can't track down splits. However the aluminum wide junk on the LC has to go! :D

EDIT: Yes the roads here are CRAAAAZY bad, well on our side of the country (Guat border).

Took all the stickers off the windows (not a fan of window stickers), the license plate cover (from a US dealership :)) and the original dealership sticker (was a pain to fully remove) above the Yota emblem.

Better looking without stickers. Note the hanging plate...someone stripped the bolt so I have to do a little extra work. :(

Added blind spot mirrors (a must for me).

I would just go for the normal steel wheels like on a 75 troopie or the 60 series.

For our long trip I also looked at the split rims, but I saw it as too much hassle. Usually the spare wheel is enough, and then get it fixed at the first point of civilization.
And you could take such a small kit to make a fix on the road.

If I can figure out all the details on connection, I'd like to make a ladder like this from Frontrunner.

I'd also like to copy Frontrunners roof rack design.

I've got 31's on the Cruiser, see any reason 32's won't fit?

First trip to the farm in the new LC and it walked up the mountain in 2wd. Any other car and I would have had to put it in 4wd. This thing is a beast!!! :D I also loaded it down with about 600# of green coffee with no issues!

Anyone have any info or can point me to a disk conversion for the rear?

I believe a 32" tire should fit. I had one 32 that came as a spare on my LJ78 and I tried it on the front right and there didn't seem to be any rubbing issues at full articulation.

Anyone have any info or can point me to a disk conversion for the rear?

Yours has drums on the rear? I didn't know they came that way. Mine had disks front and rear.

So is this with a PZ engine or KZ engine?
I think the model is a PZJ75?

I'm not sure if it is the same as with a short LJ70, you can find stuff on conversion online.
I looked in it for my van (has similar drivetrain to the LJ70) but not gonna do it for now.

Stock tires for this are 31's according the title so I imagine you could go up one size.
Yup, drums on the rear and it's really noticeable down a steep hill loaded down.

Defiantly a KZJ77. I'll google some more, just looking for the easy way out. Lol.

Get an OME suspension for it and install skinny 33's for when rainy season starts.Get the HD coils if you want to load it up with coffee and heavy accessories.

I wonder if I can get OEM suspension here. Hmmmm...

Or Dobinson,Terrain Tamer,TJM or any of the other Aussie brands. If not I would not ad a 1000 pounds on upgrades because it might look cool but you will be breaking and damaging stuff.

In Europe some LJ owners lift there cruisers with 80 series springs, they use stock 80 springs to lift the LJ's see if you can find a set of those in the rastro ;-)
