Great pics, great to see everyone. It is the holy land for sure.

Thanks for the 21 gun salute camp welcome!! We laughed on the ride home a few times about that one.

Was a crazy whirlwind trip for us. I need to slow down soon because this breakneck pace is making me tired!! This "you can sleep when you're dead" stuff doesn't work as well as it used to... :D

Sorry i offended anyone by not inviting, but this was intended to be a small group of only about 3-4 rigs so we could move quickly and cover more ground. Also, we didn't really have a plan and we were going to make decisions on the fly as to where to go. So we didn't really know where we would be or where we would end up. If we had folks coming in at different times there is no way we could keep up with everyone and get them all together. Plus, there was a real possibility of some body damage (lucky we didn't get any other than jfz80 bashing his rear plastic bumper corner off).

No worries! Next time you want to scout I am volunteering my services. I have GPS, laptop, rubber skin, big tires, and no regard for brush, branches, sticks, ruts, or body damage :)

We really needed the GPS this weekend! That was the only frustration. We found a bunch of new trails, and trails off the new trails, ect.... but had to do our best looking at the rover map and trying to figure out where we "thought" we were.

I think my next mod instead of lockers will be a nice GPS. After all, i went everywhere this weekend open and never needed to lock up. :flipoff2:

I had mine along but it was of no help since my stay was so short.

Luckily I have a decent GPS in my head and easily found camp even with everyone doubting me. :flipoff2:

bill, unfortunately the vid of you and concrete coming through the ruts killed my camera and did not make it home, thanks for puttin on a show and scaring the little kiddies for us anyways!!!! send me your email and ill shoot you a full size of you throwin up the rooster tail.

Different from the one in post #14?

awesome pics guys. I swear I will make the trip with you guys at some point. I like how the 40 turned out JP. very nice.

Cosmetics! As some of you may have noticed; not a priority for me.

Eric she trailed like a champ, never missed a lick from my POV. JP is being too humble. "Long way to go?" All she needs is a name.

thanks for the kind words Bill.......... I just wish my old 40 had the A-track and rear locker that you FJ's have. Then I could keep up with you guys........... I wonder how hard that would be to retrofitt into my 40

I never used my rear locker at the holy place. TRAC did it all except the one time I accidentally knocked it off, made a huge rooster tail and scared the little girl in the Lexus behind me so bad her dad had to take her back to camp.
Lockers of course retrofit all day long. TRAC would mean having disk brakes with four channel ABS for starters, then some sort of aftermarket traction software. You could probably buy front and rear selectable lockers plus an old Airstream for camping for less money.
Hmmm! Gets me thinking. What kind of wrecked vehicle could you pick up cheap that would have 4channel traction control retrofittable to an FJ40. That would be a kewl project.
Anyway: You'll never have trouble keeping up with an FJ, you'll always have more clearance and articulation. Solid front axles rule the rocks, rock the rules. And I often coveted your short wheelbase and low low low center of gravity.
Give up the humility mate, it's unseemly for a Clemson Tiger.

Actually in order to retrofit ATRAC, which is basically an ABS unit with a different tune when you press the button, you'll need wheel speed sensors on all 4 wheels, a slightly different master cylinder (gotta be able to pull the fluid from the MC), the ABS unit, at least. Drum brakes may work, assuming you can get individual WSS for each drum (I know they have 4WABS on pickups with drums (2007 Silverado for instance)).

I am not sure whether you will need throttle by wire or throttle position sensor. Some of the traction control systems can cut throttle to reduce power, and I'm think that ATRAC does this somewhat. Then there's the whole progamming issue as most ABS units have proprietary software which is not editable with typical OBDII editing software. The best bet would be for someone much smarter than me to reflash the chips and create their own program.

I used to work for Bosch in the ABS/TCS/ESP development group. When I was there we were working on the H2 Traction Control, so I have some background, but no idea if it would be worthwhile to offer retrofitted stuff.

:hijack off

it is stock except for the mild lift and 32" tires........... I was joking about the atrac stuff :D I think it has a nice stock look to it as it sits now. All that is left to do is fix the body add paint and convert it back to a column shift.

"do more with less" you trying trying to get deep on me there marshall :grinpimp:

JP I thought you were going to keep this thing stock? Keep modding it and it will end up like the last one.

Do more with less.
