The bezel should be white. Your truck is looking great!

is it? Mines a light grey looking color off my troopy, I thinkif i had the oem bumper it would "match".

Anyway, sick build.

I put an adhesive backed sound deadener (fat mat if I recall correctly 3/8th inch thick too) on my roof top, no headliner yet. Can't imagine the headliner weighing enough to pull it off, it has a good sticky black tar like adhesive, plus some Super 90 from 3M will get the headliner to stick to anything. I can't justify the cost for the headliner for me it at the moment though, the silver looks kinda space shipish!

headliner

looks like the stuff is just over 1/8th of an inch thick (I was way off).

the corners kinda look like patchwork to make everything fit. The fat mat came with a little roller pin to press the material, it is a bit small so I found the rolling pin in the kitchen to use.

Any air bubbles i'd cut a small slit in and work the material down flat.

looking good, fun working over your head, eh?

what is that material?

Hey duckface, thanks for posting the pics. Thats a pretty clean install you have there. I always imagined it would be one roll, but you've obviously cut it into more manegable sections. Nice one.

Heres a shot of my jerry can holder. Is this factory stock?

Got the splits painted. The inside has a matt finish, and the outter side has a glossier coat.

Went with a body coat for the underbody and the wheel wells.

This is right under the rear doors.

We're almost there!

OH NO! I pulled the top and sides to durabak the tub of the troopy a week after I got it. so this was done with gravity on my side. I had wanted to do the headliner at the same time (for obvious reasons) but what I thought was a headliner for my troopy that the PO had given me was actually a pick-up headliner, a little on the short side.

this is the stuff Sound Deadener Products FatMat Dynamat Xtreme Alternative I got it off ebay, 100sqft came in two rolls of 24" wide. It was easy to work with, I did it all myself would have been helpful with a second person. Also the heat has made the material "shrink" so the seams have separated just a little bit.

McMaster-Carr
thinking of trying this stuff, i found a huge roll of a foam with a rubber coating decades ago and used it for sound deadening in a 40 i had. the stuff was amazing, sound deadening and heat retention was fantastic but i could never find it again.
i might try this stuff and report back.

thanks for the link, it got me thinking again ... and that price is pretty good.

Some snaps of what the rig looks like today. I still have a few things on my to do list which include power steering, cluster guage upgrades to LED, some Hella H4 headlight upgrades, and possibly some Manafre 2F headers, (still debating that one). I also have some door weatherstriping on the way, so will work on those too.

But for now here she is.

I'm really happy with how the upholstry turned out. Not bad for a local job. Got lapbelts out of a 76 series wagon front seats (3rd person middle seat). Fits great, and didnt feel like drilling on the door frames in order to install shoulder belts.:meh:

Till then...

Supurb!

Looking better than ex-factory.

beautiful

Thanks guys:cheers: This site provides more than enough inspiration and ideas!

I noticed when we installed the spare tire under the truck, the 255/85 size seems too big, and the treads are pretty much engulfing the shackle grease nipples. I am not a fan of running the spare tire on the rear door, and want to keep it under the truck, but was wondering if the nipples may snap off from constant contact with the spare tire?

You can see the nipples burried between the treads. As if its in a buffer zone. Should I worry?

Umm.... those grease nipples will move quite a bit (probably up to an inch either way would be relatively common) as your suspension flexes. I cannot tell for sure from the pictures, but it looks as if you may have a bit of contact there that will probably wind up in damage to both the nipples and your spare tire.

Hello,

Looking good.

I noticed there is no heater. Do you plan to install one? Or an A/C unit?

Juan

She is absolutely BEAUTIFUL ! I want to get a TROOPY and make it a daily driver. Would be perfect for Denver CO's weather plus I wouldn't get stuck in the snow. Its now your fault. I want one. Who do I contact ?

Cheers fellas!

Turn the shackle pins around so the nipples are on the 'outside'.

I'm wondering if I put the shackle bolts side on the inside, they too will rub with the tire when the shackles "rotate". Perhaps I'm just better off using the old standard tire as the back up, and have it as an "emergency tire". Enough to let me limp home in case of a flat, and then swap in the 255/85/16 tire.

Thanks. I certainly wont be needing a heater in this part of the world, but I am on the lookout for a used factory AC. I need one badly, and they arent easy to find. Any ideas where is a good place to look?

Tell me about it. I've been on the search for 6 years.. In the end I was willing to accept any condition and if it required a frame-off resto then so be it. I know Marv at Specter has 2 X troopys from Saudi sitting in his warehouse backyard. Both have 2F engines. He also has a couple of 2H diesel troopys from down under as well. I am certain they are for sale, so that would be a good place to start!

That is one beautiful fj. Saw my first troopy on the net a couple days ago, and now i want one. I love my 62 but your 45 is awesome.

Very nice & clean rig
