Hope he’s alright but dang dude, you’re on a county road, please don’t idiot.
You would think that being hospitalized with major injuries and totaling your vehicle would be enough.
But of course they needed to ticket him as well.
Was he being an idiot who knows probably but sh*t happens.

The edges are soft after all of the moisture. I was in Yankee Boy Basin after a wet season a few years ago. Even though I was keeping plenty of distance from the edge, 3’+ of the road gave away and took our 4Runner with it. Nobody was hurt.

The not wearing his seatbelt really skewed him towards the idiot status in my book. Also traveling alone which isn’t inherently a bad thing but doesn’t help his situation with everything else.You would think that being hospitalized with major injuries and totaling your vehicle would be enough.

I did say I hope he’s alright and I mean that.
The SolidAxleSummit episodes continue as I speak with @ceylonfj40nut about how his cruiser-tism started as a boy in Africa and it continues on here now. I saw his 40 series driving down the road and honestly got a little jealous that his was going fast and I still hadn't worked out the bugs in mine. We share about getting and having experiences before it is too late to have them.

Ironically, about the only time I wear a seat belt in the 40 is whilst offroadering.
On the road, I'd much rather get tossed.
The genius of the 40 crumple zone is when the passenger door touches the driver's side door, it stops crumpling.

My daughter asked me the other day while we in the 40, "Where do the airbags come out if we get in a wreck?" I said, "They come out in the other car sweetheart." She replied, "What about us?" I told her, "We don't have airbags, we die like men." My kids are auto trained to put on their belts as am I.
I guess in a 40, you are the crumple zone.
Much like every other vehicle designed in the 1950's, safety wasn't a concept that was considered. An FJ40 is a deathtrap in any sort of major accident. At the very least, it's very low on the list of vehicles I want to be in when things go south. It ranks somewhere around a donkey or Tuk Tuk for a safety rating.
I saw the aftermath of a newish Ford F150 plowing into a overpass support at 90mph. I drove past the incident a few minutes after it had happened.
Dude was sad because his girlfriend broke up with him, and he decided that was enough.
I met one of the fire/rescue vehicles headed out of town while I was on my way into town. A buddy of mine was in that fire truck. I texted him, "I'm not sure I'd bother hurrying, that fella got blended".
That truck was MANGLED. According to my buddy, when they cut a hole big enough to get him out of the carnage, the driver actually managed to help pull himself out. I was shocked. I would've guessed that dude went full ketchup packet.
Modern engineering is pretty wild.
I've heard claims that modern airbags are so good, that the seatbelts aren't necessary in most instances.

I'm on a work conference call (and naturally I'm perusing Mud during said call) and laughed openly at the "ketchup packet". Solid.
Howdy y'all! Since SAS I've been missing a gallon ziploc bag with ALL of my Cruiser Trash Parts stickers - probably several hundred of them. I expected to find it while unpacking but it never turned up. I've been all through our camping bins and it just isn't anywhere in my possession.
Has anybody spotted that? Directors, did I leave it at the SAS tables? Did somebody pick it up after the raffle? Did ya find it laying on the ground somewhere? Let me know!
