I sure am glad we got through Pearl Pass without body damage to your beautiful 43!
Somewhere along the line my steering gear bracket cracked a weld (mine) and on the way up out of Aspen we experienced a bit of death wobble. Eased it into BV and @DangerNoodle ‘s shop where he welded it right back up, he saved the day a couple of times for me this trip!

We seriously thought about taking a slight detour and driving through Mark Twain NF on the way home until we saw the temps…Around Salina KS today.. Just getting out to get gas really had me questioning the reasons I was pointed further East. View attachment 4191967

This was probably the hottest temperature wise in all 10 years of doing SAS. Was hoping for some nice cool temps and afternoon rains that never really happened. Still a great week and we roasted on the way home.
I get a weather alert this evening for possible flooding in the Ouray area. Go figure...

Agreed. Was hoping for some rain and cooler temps but great week all around.

Yep @DangerNoodle told me my aluminum weld wouldn’t hold. So that was the lesson. I’ll tag you in my build thread with pics of the broken parts and my mistakes. That, and when I put a wider cross flow radiator in, rework the steering gearbox mount heavier.
Just landed home, going to take a lesson from leadership and play dead for a day if I can get away with it.
The heat was so bad it produced radical change in me to not spend eternity in it .. It's amazing How attending SAS has altered my life . My 1st was SAS 5. I kind of found out about it by accident from Dj when we worked together. Between hitting an elk a week before the event and the massive amounts of Budweiser I dont remember much of it other than smashing out a rear window on the wall. SAS 6 Dj got me camp site Next to the Garbos and the 2nd coolest heeler on the planet . Unknown to me this would be a life changing and sobering week. I got sober for the 1st time in many years a few months after the event. Lets jump to SAS 10 and beating the heat. My friend and brother John baptized me in Lake Como on weds during the Poughkeepsie gulch run .The water was perfect . I'm so grateful it wasn;t snowing as it has in years prior. For me this was the best year ever. I camped in the back and actually talked with some of you. Heard stories Like Michelle the mattress girl and much more. I want to thank my SAS family for sharing this day with me and to the other person who asked to be baptized as well. Life is good in Colorado. I wasn't going to share this But for me this event goes way beyond Land Cruisers . Thank you Casey and crew for making this happen!!!!

On the first @solidaxlesummit_ recap episode I speak with not just one but both of the McVickers, @John McVicker.
He tells me that he still has his first Land Cruiser, a 75 Fj40 and how sometimes the most vivid memories are the ones that scare you half to death.
Don't let that tough exterior fool you. John is only 65 and Poughkeepsie gulch isn't that stressful.

I wanted to take a moment to say thank you to all of you for the care package and card from SAS 10. While not getting out to the mountains with all of you was sad, it was the right call for me this year. I wish you all happy and safe trails. I'll see ya'll next year at SAS 11.
