Good news. I adjusted the tail gate and now the window zips up nice and easy without me pushing the tailgate more closed. this was my one goal today with the land cruiser.

I also grabbed my other transfer case from my parents garage. its a little more rough than I remember. Gears on the inside look fine though. needs a clean up at the very least. you can tell somebody has been in it before because of the red rtv

That's a good feeling to see that sucker go back up and down isn't it!

Awesome! What was out of adjustment that was keeping it from closing tight?
yeah pretty much. I really need new weather stripping there too. not that the weather stripping was affecting it much but its for sure not good anymore. Maybe Ill start looking for the upper portion soon. and the tail gate side weatherstripping. most of the weather stripping on the 55 needs to start getting replaced. Just lots of $$ so my plan is to slowly replace them one piece at a time.

I am pretty happy about it! it will be nice in the summer for sure.

Forgot to mention I found a oem licence plate lamp from @Cruiser Corps that I snagged up! looks like they only had a few because after I purchased the light it became out of stock. License Plate Light - OEM - FJ55 1969-1972 - https://cruisercorps.com/collections/50-series-shop-all/products/fj55-license-plate-light-oem Mine is pretty roached out though it does still work. Its the little things getting replaced that start adding up.

eventually I will get some upholstery through cruiser corps. I could get coral again. I wonder how that would look in the fj55. between that and grey. I dont really want black again.

You should have asked. The earlier license plate lamp is still available from Toyota.

humm I should of I guess. Its all good though. How about rear tail light lenses? mine are cracked in a few places. I think I saw SOR had some reproduction ones.

I love city racer! I have given them alot of money in the past. No luck on there with 55 series tail lights though. I have already looked. although they have most of the weather stripping that I will need.

Apologies; I was thinking about Slocruisers for those. Unfortunately it appears that they are for 73 through 77. You should really ask these questions in the 55 specific forum. Yes, I know, I have said that before.

My bad also I was talking about the break light lenses not the reverse lights. My reverse light lens is fine.

these are the only ones I have seen for a 1971- https://www.sor.com/cat/148b Just pretty spendy for some plastic lenses.

Yeah I probably should ask there for more specific stuff. But this is also my build thread where I am keeping my train of thought/record of everything.

Apologies, I misinterpreted your post. I will look around for Brake Light / Tail light lenses. I'm not as familiar with the early 55s.

I finally got around to tackling this rust. for the time I have owned this fj55 I have had a piece of guerrilla duct tape here to keep it from getting water in here. Of course this rust was worse once I started picking at it. I ended up doing 3 patches that went about to the end of the roof to 6 inchs past were the picture stops here.

Welding and grinding done. very tedious. Not my favorite thing in the world. I used an angle grinder with a flappy disc. a flappy disc for a die grinder would have made life easier. anybody have any suggestions of flappy discs for die grinders?

filled and block sanded. tapped down a few high spots with a body work hammer too. then filled and blocked again.

I found some epoxy primer left over from another project and shot 4 coats of epoxy primer here. Turned out pretty good! I am going to file down the weld on the gutter too before the final paint. sorta in a hurry to epoxy prime because we have some serious weather coming in. heavy 50mph wind and snow possibly this weekend so I pulled my carport tarp down because of the storm. I strapped down the metal frame. Id rather Salted Pork Family wagon get snowed on than getting the metal carport bars crashing into the cruiser due to wind or snow. I also gave it a fluid film bath since I had the carport taken apart. (not on the fresh epoxy)

side note: found some bondo in the roof above near the yakima bars. I think a tree must of hit it because I am not seeing any holes or anything on the inside. it was done when the paint job happend I believe.

I cant wait to start taking photos of my fj55 again. I finally got some film developed. A few of my favorites here mostly taken with my favorite camera of all time: my 1961 Rolleiflex 3.5f. To keep it related to land cruisers - The last photo was around this time last year for the big snow. A little up from the saltwagon fj40 is where I park the fj55 now. The fj40 shot was taken with my trusty nikon fm2

I bought some front door body molding from SOR - part number 113-95G-A and 113-96G-A. Seemed like a good move since the stuff I took off to do the rockers kinda disintegrated when removing it.

aren't all the 55 tail light lenses the same except for the late 78/79 models with the tall integrated assemblies?

I have no idea. sounds correct. I believe the early lenses OEM are NLA though. So SOR has repops. I need to go ahead and just buy them. Mine work but are not long for this world.

They're all the same size and shape, but there's two-tone and solid red colors
