Sweet meeting you, We did discuss about making an annual event . I'll get everyones mud handle and cross reference
ll
Lets make it happen! I'll try to rally more troops too!

also Took the Isuzu Pup for its last drive with me as its owner yesterday. I drove it around for a week to make sure she was all good to go. I sold it to a friend of mine and he is going to use it for his beater lawn truck. I gave him a pretty good deal.

The reason for the sale: I was not having fun with the truck anymore. I have also been using the 55 for truck things too. So I didnt really need it. It was fun putting it back together with my students. but it was also very frustrating in some of its designs. Number one being if you need to pull the front cover, or oil pan you basically should pull the whole engine and transmission out. also to do a clutch you need to pull the engine. I think I learned alot on the isuzu side quest. I try to learn somthing new every time I do a car project.

The last reason for selling it. This guy is picking up a new project and My wife says 3 car limit. its fair we don't have lot of space for my shenanigans. I am really excited for the next project that I should be picking up in a few weeks. It follows one of my rules in that the windshield folds down.

The last time I drove it to work.

Tease! ARB 2500 were on sale not too long ago. Pig is looking fabulous.

It was a big weekend! first I met up with fellow land cruiser nerd @tromz and his Land Cruiser crew on Saturday briefly on a work break! it was pretty cool to see pretty much all the north American solid axle cruisers in one place. and a JDM surf!

This fj40 had a really well done sniper kit. Kida gives me thoughts on doing that again. I was drooling over that engine bay. I cant remember but I think he said he had a HEI dizzy too. I like the oem dizzy but again the engine bay was really clean.

Then On mothers day we took the 55 to the beach again and had a fantastic beach sunday funday. Margot loved the beach. It was her first beach sunday! first of many! Hung out with friends, I went surfing, we had some good breakfast on the beach. It was a good time.

Awesome pics and man I hated to miss that trip. Next year... That ole @tromz is pretty good people

any tips for a good awning to put on the fj55? dont know If the arb brand is on budget right now.

Man, I'll be a bit contrarian here, and it's not broverlander rated, but for the price and ease of use, and all the wind we get out here I really like using a Neso tent, especially if all you are after is sun protection. You can drape and anchor the free end over the the side or the back of the truck, attach it to roof racks, or not attach it to the truck at all and have it free standing. They are stretchy and breath well, and heat doesn't build up under them as much as other awnings. Obviously not water proof, but user friendly and relatively easy on the pocketbook. There is also the Slumberjack roadhouse tarp, which is pretty versatile and affordable, especially if you can grab one during a memorial day sale. I've also used the inexpensive mesh sun protection awnings secured to the truck, used collapsible poles and anchored with sand bags. Barring that, I would save up for a really good $$$ "free standing" awning and be prepared to anchor it down.

@svsisu the Road House Tarp is a great idea. Mine got relegated to the ‘88 Trooper once I got a different set up on the 100.

I like them, and they do have the benefit of being waterproof compared to the Neso tent/awning. Very versatile and can be used for many activities besides being out in the truck. I've used mine with my tacoma that has a bed topper.

When I was testing the waters of getting an awning to see if it would be useful or just jewelry, I got a SmittyBuilt one. Same basic principle as the ARB one just smittier materials. Either one (I have an ArB one now that was part of a trade) really takes two people to set up unless you want to be the entertainment.

Definitely useful as a sun/rain shade.

I enjoyed talking with them! they were really cool. I only had like an hour to hang... I was on a "lunch break"from the surfshop.

we sell the nesos in the surfshop... Rachael and I suck at putting them up. but we will probably use it for the time being. I just dont want little margot to get sunburnt. Heard you might be in wilmington when I am picking up the next project.

Yeah I might end up getting somthing nice eventually. really just want somthing to get me through October this year.
This is epic!

No updates this weekend. My brother got married so I didnt really have time for tinkering with the 55. I did drive it some though... and even better I have a baby seat in the fj55 so margot loves it! I have gotten most of it pretty dialed in now. when I am in Wilmington in a few weeks I am going to pick up metal for the spare tire carrier.

The less I mount on the roof of my Pig, the better I like it.

They take a little getting used to. Basically stretch it as much as possible, like where you think it will rip, and stretch a little more, then insert the poles. Same with filling the sand pockets, they hold a heck of a lot more than you think they can. I think they now make a version that is made for attaching one side to a vehicle or structure. Not as versatile, but probably a little more user friendly.

Yeah, I'm trying to get down there and pick up a few things that have been at the compound for awhile. With J and you being there, I figure it would be a fun time to go. Hopefully it works out- I'll send you text as it gets closer. I think you've been through 3 projects since I've had my stuff stored there... 🤣

Congratulations to your brother and his partner! It was a beautiful weekend, and perfect weather for the wedding.

the wedding was great. I am very happy for my brother. And yeah I have been on a roll on my projects. When I picked up the 55 I think your truck topper was there. I hope it works out too. Id be good to meet you in person officially haha. if not Ill make it up your way sometime this summer.

We have been enjoying the land cruiser for what it is latley! I really need to do some work to it but we are in crunch time int he school year and I am worn out on the weekends. soon though I am going to rebuild the door hinges and do some paintwork. I am also picking up my next project on friday. and possibly another of the same thing that I may get for free... more on that later.

Picked up my next project From @theglobb . I have always wanted a willys jeep. while not a flat fender Its still a early production m38a1. its a 1952. Plan is to get it dialed in mechanically enjoy it this summer and then I am not sure if I am going to put a new tub on it or not. I really love the patina on it but It does need quite a few patches. I even thought about putting a early cj5 tub on it because It has a tailgate and I love a good tailgate.

Luckily behind the wood bumper is the original one. Apparently unique to early m38a1 jeeps is a different style bumper. The biggest body hurdle looking at it more closely, is finding the upper windshield hinges. you can find the right upper hinge but the left looks to be not easy to find. Might even need a new windshield frame.

Another downside or upside whatever way you look at it. It has a pinto engine. ford 2.3 4cylinder. I am kinda stoked on that because I know that has more horse power than stock. It still has the original t90 trans and dana 18 tcase and stock axles. dana 44 rear and dana 25 front. something is broken in the front axle. thats going to be my first project on it.

I feel like a willys is acceptable to the Land cruiser community. hell Toyota took alot of inspiration from these. I promise to melt down all ducks into something useful.

Now for somthing even wilder - at the same time I was about a week away from picking up Jonathans m38a1 jeep when an elderly woman approached me and asked If i wanted a free jeep.... I was thinking maybe is a roached out yj or somthing like that.... NOPE it was a 50s willys cj5! it needs a lot of work but maybe I can build a really nice jeep from the two or put on a new tub on it. not sure yet. I have not picked this one up yet but it is on the island.

THis cj5 has all the original drive train that was all rebuild. The f134 and t90+Dana 18 tcase. the owner is in bad health and can't finish the restore. the tub is in worse shape than the m38a1 but the floor pans are better. and the hood is in way better shape.

Dont worry I have not forgotten about my fj55 its been pretty much my daily in the last few weeks. and it will be more daily if I decide to sell my samurai to buy a new tub for one of these jeeps haha.
