Pretty sure most car manufacturers in the 70s used whatever they had on the shelf and also didn't run full factory acceptance tests on 100% of vendor supplied parts. Brown was good enough for brown that day. Variances and tolerances were a suggestion

I have seen a few other painted in the same color though. Including another in NC. @roadstr6 has it. But Ill just get it paint matched if its not that t-1445 paint.

I lovingly call my Pig’s colour calf shyt brown…hard to order that at a paint shop though!

I took the color wheel outside the paint place, kicked the dirt and match that color in "flat tan" Was described as baby s*** brown, but I will tell you it dam hard to see off the road if I cover the chrome and glass.

Big fan of make it yours! After I get all the body work done I would paint it the same color again. However I want to do the Flying Tiger" P-40 nose art. Racing War Tractor.

I know I have been really chewing on just repainting the color portion of the fj55. I really like the Rustic Green and the Muleta red as colors on the fj55s. but part of me also likes the idea of keeping it closer to original. it really is a unique color even if its turd brown haha.

Its never going to be concorse amazing perfect ever especially with the non factory bob m rockers. but It will be better with those! Ill report back when I get the paint in.

I am a Dad! Little Margo was born only two days early on January 20th. I am so happy and tired haha! A mile stone game changer in my life for sure. Cant wait to show her the ropes on these old Land Cruisers! We are just now settling in at home. So updates on the 55 will happen but sporadic for sure.

Oh Margo, beautiful. How she will change your life! Congratulations to your precious family!

Edit: she is doing a fist bump for cruisers.

Congrats!
Perfect as she is, no upgrades needed!
Be aware that there is a break in period for this model that lasts for a while, expect leaks from various parts of the running gear and random noises or squeaks at unexpected times.

and like we all say....budget is only $5k

Huge congrats!
It goes FAST! Feels like just yesterday I was sleeping on the couch in the hospital room, 4 years later…the girls are asking to be driven to school in ‘red truck’. Entirely too fast.
Thanks! that couch sucks!! to be honest didn't really sleep the first night. I just kept checking on the baby. we are all trying to figure out the sleep schedule...

Thank you! This is so funny! but also true....

And oh the leaks from the output!!!!

Makes you wish for gear oil or ancient gasoline as an air freshener
and I hate gear oil!

Just pittling around this morning and yesterday afternoon while Rachael and Margot are sleeping. I found my wheel cylinder rebuild kits. I think they will not work though because I think they are not in the correct year range.

I welded in the patch panel that I made with my millermatic 142. this welder is a game changer. SO MUCH BETTER. i didnt burn through at all, the welds looked better. I need to still smooth everything out but I think this patch will look good once I am finished. I also sprayed weld through primer to keep in from flash rusting. I welded the patch that I made for the corner of the cowl too.

I also looked at my carb. Looks to be a 1976 carb. I am thinking I am going to modify the linkage to do a throttle cable. I pulled the air horn off and the accellerator pump was fine. I must have had 2 of these carbs? or I actually replaced it. I dont remember. I know all the extra vaccum stuff and fuel return line is annoying. I am not sure I will even use this one though. It might be cheeper on my end to just buy one of those chinnesium ones off amazon or somthing. I had great success with one of those on my fj40. and even so my holley was fine. starts right up everytime. But going back more oem is always better.... I would like to find a stock 2f air cleaner. I dont know what you need for the earlier fj55 hood.

this below might have been why I decided to roll with the chineesium. I vaguely remember rebuilding it and then having to replace the keyster accelerator pump because the rubber dissolved because I was using starting fluid... my bad there. keyster one is rubber not leather. Then all of a sudden I had junk in the fuel bowl and it seemed to be causing issues. Kinda remember shelving this carb then.

I pulled out the header to start cleaning it off. says its a TRI MILL brand? idk but it should work after I clean it up some. to avoid decking it. I bought a ramaflex gasket. Also had fantastic success with that on my old fj40.

Messing with stuff this morning while I had some time I figured out a few things! I got my fj55 to work off the key switch in the back. Some how a bug or grub or something got into the switch mechanism gummed it up and broke the little nub that operates the rocker switch in there. I have no idea how it got there. and that was the cause of the issues with the key switch not working. I tried glueing it back together but no luck. It just kept breaking. I think it was some sort of hardwood? IDK. I ended up turning down a plastic piece of scrap and using that to replace the broken piece.

I had the motor mechanism out and while it was out I re greased it. The little plastic gear looked fine. picture below is before I greased it.

I am missing one of the window guide felts on the passenger side. does anybody make those?

I also figured out why it was slow. The tail gate is not shut as tight as it could be. Pushing the tailgate in while it goes up and it zipps up real quick! so I guess I need to adjust the tail gate now. How does one adjust the rear tailgate to shut tighter?

A video below of it working. Hard to video while operating the key and keeping closing pressure on the tailgate.

Just for fun here is a video of it starting. It really does run good with the holley 2300.
