Sad day...ex gf keyed my cruisers paint to death.

I appreciate your consideration for the severity of a felony conviction, I have had a few employees with that mark and while some have been good people as well as citizens, that mistake in their lives kicks their ass on a regular basis. What your gf did is a huge deal for a Cruiser head, and you deserve to be well compensated, and at that point I have to believe that it is fair enough. I do like the idea of the solid police report so others may get lucky and avoid her.

As far as the damage, paint work is getting stupid expensive and a cheap job in my area is $3000 and top shelf concourse paint job is north of $10,000. Get a fair deal and good luck!

How you deal with her is your issue now, and I commend our concern for her future since it could be severely
effected by how you deal with this. Stupid is stupid, but sometimes shouldn't last a lifetime.

To get back to the Cruiser. The best and only real way to save money is do all the stripping yourself.
All the chrome, bumpers, doors, glass, grille. If you start sanding without a clue, you're just going to pay
the shop apprentice full shop rate to fix your work. A bare body is a few hours to prep and prime as it
is in good shape anyhow. Then when it's all painted, take it home and put the bits back on yourself.
That way any bits of obsolete plastic and stuff you can deal with yourself without knowing what's
in need of replacing or not. And you save hours of shop time and cost.
The only .02 I have is the colour is one of my favourites for 60's, so please don't change the colour.

My early model (Nov '87) FJ62 was single stage paint. If your truck is single stage then you can fill, wet sand, and buff new blue enamel into those scratches and it'll look pretty good. If your truck is two stage paint (base coat, clear coat) then you're pretty well screwed, although it can be done by professionals. A trip to a reputable detailing shop can yield some options for you rather than re-spraying the whole rig. I just did a complete re-paint on my 62 and it is not for the faint of heart.
