bummer on that rock, we spotted every FJC thru there cleanly....

good damage report tho :D

Yep, on our early departure my friend in his FJC made it through cleanly...I'm thinking vehicle not line or spotter was the difference there.

The 80 line would have been to get up on the rock near the bottom angling the body away from the rock. Thats what Robbie told me and how the FJ's went through. In case anyone goes up this hill in the future

not being critical here, however, there is no way you can expect to go on the rubicon especially in a 80 and not expect some body damage. Are you guys actually going to get those dents fixed? I hope not. Wear it like a badge of honor and add it to the "show off your body damage" thread.

You , misunderstand. I went expecting damage and am quite pleased with how I came out. Not complaining about the damage. I thought I had said that. Can't we talk about how something happened and how it could be avoided?

Ditto, I consider myself lucky :D

absolutely. I misunderstood. Sorry. :o

I also agree, I received about what I expected, no regrets about running the Rubicon. I had been thinking of doing the rhino line thing anyway, and that will cover all of this if I end up doing that.

It's still a bummer though that we didn't take the time to at least question the line, or the spotting, or stack a few rocks, if there was a regret of mine that would be it. But it had been repeatedly driven into our heads that we were to obey orders, stay in the truck, and get the hell up the hill and off the trail, lest we risk delaying the whole shebang.

But heck, 5 minutes after we all scratched our 80's someone below us broke some knuckle studs, and absolutely no traffic came up the hill for at least another hour. That would have given us more time than needed to take a better approach.. it's true what they say about hindsight. It's my fault though for just obeying, and not being more involved with where my truck was headed.

Git up on the Rock?

Romer,

Glad you guys all had a great time. Really was disappointed in not going, but spent all my pennies on a bumper from 4x4 labs that is due to be put on tomorrow! Looks like I would have needed it and glad I decided to wait.

Anyway when you said start low and get up on the rock, are you saying place your PS tire on the rock on the PS side you got the dent from? Reason I ask is I wheel mostly with shorter wheelbase Toys and Jeeps. They won't know what line for me to pick while spotting until it is to late.

Thanks

The Claw

That is the spot. Higher to the left, just means more tip into the rock. Lower means killing both doors. We tried filling the trough for Tom's truck, but even he collected a scratch on the flare and an impression of the 4x4 Labs bumper in the quarter panel. That's actually a small price on this trail...

Yes, I know THAT rock. I only came away with minimal damage because I had superb spotting, thanks to Andy and David.

From what i remember, i started with the PAss front on the right closest to the rock that cought us, then aimed up hill turning left and driving up the rock, feels quite a bit tippie, but i had my crawer going so it was real slow and could feel every inch of the climb. As soon as the front started back down my right rear Quarter(slider) started to drag on the rock. sounded like all hell was getting caved in but the slider took it like a champ. again this is how i think i did it, I did so much crawling it is hard to 100 percent recall. anyways its all good.

And in my 2 cents body damage is tons better than broken drive train. Much easier to fix in most cases. see you all soon

cheers

X2 same thought on the slider and the other comment

On the body damage, I glued the clips back on like I said I bought all new fasteners for $18 and put the door molding back on and it looks like it never came off. I had some matching color spray paint for the cladding so I just painted where it was scratched. Total cost of body work repair $18. I see no reason not to make modest attempts to keep my truck in good shape.

New rotors, pads, bearings etc and will rebuild the front axle a little early and use some red FPIG along with the gasket. Do the rebuild this weekend.

Going to buy a set of Landtanks beefy swaybar links for sale in the merch section and then everything will be fixed.

Thanks James. Since I have two LX450s with the same color I may buy it from you if we ever meet up, wouldn't want to ship it. Going to CM next year?

Wear it like a badge of honor my ass:D

ken,
it's yours if you want it, just shipping cost or if I hit CM I'll bring it along. I snapped it up from Roberto in case I needed to salvage broken clips, etc . So the stuff isn't for sale. ;)

Say goodbye to those shiny chrome wheels.

-B-

See, that scares me and is why I don't like overnight trails. Tough to get off the trail when people are stealing your rims. :flipoff2:

Looks like you guys need to lose those flares :flipoff2:
:bang:

You 80 guys make me laugh....gluing your plastic pieces back onto your rig...
Take a hint! If the trail takes off your plastic pieces, they shouldn't have been there in the first place. 40 drivers know enough to take off their running boards before they wheel the 'Con. If a relatively useless piece of sheetmetal gets wrinkled by the rocks, cut it off! Sure, the first cut is the hardest, but it gets easier.
Don't complain that a new panel might cost 600 or 900 bucks...at least they're still obtainable!
One or two dents might look odd, but if you can collect enough it looks good.
