That ding on the door looks expensive, Tim. Great trip overall, and your mic thingie is already installed in my 80 ( which my son has appropriated as his car for this summer). Thanks very much.

It was funny talking to Cruiser Dan on the trip. Each ding was "that's a $600 panel from Toyota" moment. Sometimes too much knowledge is dangerous.

I hope you guys come back next year for one big super run on Wednesday.

Pretty sure I'll be back at Cruise Moab, hopefully with a trail assignment for Golden Spike (my favorite trail).

Ken when you broke the front sway bar......did it take out the brake line???

Curious.....seems like alot of those happen when the front one breaks:rolleyes:

:flipoff2:Oh yea, you lucky bastad!:flipoff2:

Since only one side broke the brake line was find. If the other side had gone, then the swaybar would have been free to move and take the sway bar with it.

The Clips on the backside of the gladding were glued on with JB weld. replaced all the clips and re-isntalled the cladding on the rear passinger door. Went on perfect. Just a few scratches to show what happened but minor.

Toss it! This is exactly why I never use gaskets on them. When stressed the gasket can additionally crush, allowing slight movement, any movement will start the loosening action. Glue it on with pretty much any form in place type sealer, RTV, silicone, the Toyota stuff, etc. This makes for an almost metal to metal connection, much stronger and the adhesive helps in making it even more solid. The only down side is getting them back off, the trick is to remove the nuts and use a jack under the pinion to pop it loose.

I was going to do the gasket and the red FPIG together.

More like a $900 panel.....

If Sarah's truck went through the damage appraiser's lane I bet it would come out to at least 4,000 bucks...............

And it wasn't really tapped all that hard.....

All in all I am glad to say we have been on that trail and I would NEVER take a vehicle that I cared about on it. I was stressed quite a bit of the time because I was the flight engineer and mechanic and every bang made me think about what I would need to fix to get us off the trail.

I do not think I will ever go again if I were to have any responsibility for a vehicle as a driver, mechanic or owner. I would certainly go back as an observer. It's a beautiful place.

I will post up my Cadillac 1/4 panel as well...not the same spotters as we left early but apparently the same line was taken :frown:

The large dent actually came out when I pulled the panel and gave it a kick, the crease down below is still there though.

I am not convinced that the spotting was all that lacking. That particular rock is a screaming bitch and if I had my way I would dynamite the sonofabitch and use the left-over pieces to fill up the hole.

I was too busy watching the RH quarter panel getting a shave.

I'll look through the stuff I took.

LOL Nice Dan, that sums it up pretty well!!!

Beo here is Ken's truck. As you can see his flare is getting shoved into the quarter. The problem with a left-hand line is you are too off-camber and you end up rolling over onto the rock.

I had my front DS wheel in the air at that point from being left, it was a little hairy.

Dan let me know if I can use your quote in my sig line, didn't want to w/o asking and you have PMs off.

Go ahead....

That is the spot. Higher to the left, just means more tip into the rock. Lower means killing both doors. We tried filling the trough for Tom's truck, but even he collected a scratch on the flare and an impression of the 4x4 Labs bumper in the quarter panel. That's actually a small price on this trail.

Several years ago, Cube Dweller went in with a straight truck, and came out with every single body panel "massaged" by the trail.

Dan-Did you collect damage after we took off? Sarah's truck had barely a scratch in Rubicon Springs.

I'm still smiling about the fun had at Rubithon 2008.

Can you post a pic of that section of the trail?

Hello all,
I have some cool sliders on the rear quarters, i am 100 % convinced they saved my butt the hole trip. Also great to meet you in person cruiserdan. Now i have a face to a name. As it s always tomeet new folks out on the trail. cheers all

Nice shot Chappy, that pic really captures the angle of the hill. I was on my fender flare before I had a chance to get to my 1/4 protection in that spot, I think the flare created most of my damage because I don't have scratches on my 1/4 just crush damage.

I disagree and there is a reason all the people in front of you received damage and you didn't. The guy spotting did not know how to use hand signals and had an attitude. All the trucks in front of you hit that rock. He put me in a position that Mudrak yelled stop and came down and attempted to spot me out of it and couldn't. Mudrak is outstanding and if he had spotted me there all along I would not have hit. Mudrak even apologized to me.

In the picture you can see Mudraks arm trying to figure out how to get me out of that spot while the guy who spotted me is facing him

I assume since you were right behind me Mudrak stayed and spotted you through it.

I don't want this to come off as a complaint against the event. We had a great time. There is always room for improvement and teaching hand signals to spotters and how to spot different sized trucks is a good item. 80's need to be lined up for the bafck wheels as well because they are longer, a 40 would have worked through that spot. For CM, we are always looking for ways to improve and this past year we started a training course for trail leaders. One of the topics is spotting.

All that said. I had a blast and am glad I came and had no regrets. You cant always get a good spotter and like Mike said, it was my responsibility to say No if I didn't like the spot.

Sarah hit that rock too, albeit not as much. Mudrack was spotting.

I am not adverse to stacking rocks when it comes to that or body damage as pictured above. In the case of Ken's line, it appears to me that a couple of rocks to get that right rear tyre up about 8" would have given him the clearance needed to clear that obstacle.

bummer on that rock, we spotted every FJC thru there cleanly....

good damage report tho :D
