Hey guys,

So my oil was accidentally overfilled way above full line, and not to mention is completely black upon checking dipstick ...
Reason I checked was because my oil gauge wants to go immediately up to way above middle line to the 3/4 line stopping before going all the way to the High line.
I just had it in for $6k of work on upgrading all old brake Equipement and a couple other things but one thing he obviously didn't do was simply change my oil. This is something that has not occurred in the past and is a brand new thing. It goes all the way to the 3/4 point upon just getting warm. Not after driving it for 10m - so I'm thinking I just need to change the oil and get rid of how much is inundating the pan/system but also because of the nasty black color. Indicating it hasn't been changed in a very long time. I've only had the car for so long and working on it so in the past much I didn't drive it more than sparsely around the block a couple times just to check on fixes etc.

My question is this:
I accidentally, in my haste, undid the incorrect plug and I believe it's my transmission fluid plug.
I want to verify A. That I'm correct on that assessment- that is in fact the transmission fluid I just emptied? Or is it something else?
Amd then B. Bec this is an aftermarket 5-speed transmission the PO put on but did not give me any information about, I'm looking for where I would refill the fluid I just drained? I looked around in the engine compartment but don't see anything sticking out to me screaming "this is the fill spot"

So could someone help assist me on finding where I would refill that fluid I just drains out on accident (all was perfectly clear is good so it's a little frustrating mistake on my part).

your on track - the circled plug is the engine oil - filled via the valve cover.
I can't tell from your picture if that is the transmission or the transfer case - need to zoom out a little for better reference. There is usually a large plug (usually matches the drain plug) about 3/4 the way up the housing

You need to identify your transmission (pix from the side of it would help). As @steffan noted, most manual transmission have a fill/check plug halfway up the side of the transmission. The trans. will likely take 3-4 quarts of 80w-90 gear oil. The engine should hold just over 8 qts. of motor oil when changed with a new filter.

You should find and check the transfer case, as well. It also takes 80w-90 gear oil.

That's the tranny you drained of 90WT oil, the transfer case is in the upper right side of the picture where there appears to be an oil leak. Filling the transmission is done from under the vehicle into the side of the transmission, I don't have a 5 speed so I can't help with a picture but I believe the fill plug is on the DS of the transmission about half way up the side. You are going to need a high quality GL4 80-90 WT gear oil and a pump and clear tubing to feed the oil up into the transmission. Fill until it flows out of the fill plug hole, I'm sure you can search and find the oil capacity for what I assume is an H-55 transmission.

GL4 in the trans. Hopefully it's not an NV4500, cause that takes something completely different.

+1 for proper gear oil. Tranny can have yellow metal syncros that the wrong oil can eat. Transfer case is just gear oil. I ran Kendell 85-140 for years in both T/T. This last time (april) I put this in both

Valvoline Synchromesh Manual Transmission Fluid 1 Quart

as soon as I fix the leaking seal between the T/T I'll go back to heavier oil in the transfer case. You can buy a bypass hose to return the pumped out oil from the transfer case into the tranny so it goes back into the transfer case - thus one fluid for now.
@shipmag sells the bypass hose for toyota 3 and 4 speed.

Got it so that "leak" is actually just oil that blasted out of the cap as I took it off... now
here's a picture after everything has been cleaned, and I just dropped 5quarts of Castrol 10W-40 ... gunna add a couple quarts when I go back to the store in a few minutes to get more.

So, I'm good on the oil change, but the fluid I just drained is the T-case fluid you guys say and am still looking for the fill point as explained by others. Maybe some more pictures would help you guys ID to me where that would be. I think I found it but want to confirm everything. Here ya go..

The first pic the fill plug is the allen wrench plug. When doing axle/T/T always remove the fill plug first - that way you know you can add new fluid before you drain out the old stuff. Normal is to pump fluid in until it runs out the fill plug.

The sliver part on the end is the tcase. You drained the transmission. Yes, you circled the fill plug. Fill it with gl4 till lube comes out.

dash gauge doesnt indicate fluid level, check the dipstick lines. Dont rely on other people do your oil, easy way to save money and to use the good fluid, and your transmission will probably thank you for doing it anyways, and as said GL4... not GL5. Do your transfer case and diffs too, 🧐
Being under there is a good thing anyway, spend an hour under there just looking at shiit with a light too, you need to know whats happening and what things are anyways...even if you do have someone else do the work you need to verify its been done properly. Cruisers like to be worked on by their owners...
You cruiser will thank you

oh and we need a obligatory 20' pic of this sexy beast 😅

Everyone else has addressed the trans fill so I’ll ask a different question…. Why do you think the engine was overfilled? Did you check the dipstick and it was over full? If yes, how did the extra oil get in there?

I ask because if your fuel pump leaks, it will leak into the crankcase and make the oil level high, but it’s actually fuel in with your oil. This thins your oil and makes bad noises happen, followed by worse noises, then adult crying noises.

So, was the oil level overfull? Did it smell like gas? As @bj70bc says, the oil gauge is pressure, not volume. You could have a max reading on the gauge with 1 quart of oil in there.

And lastly, 8 quarts! You said you’re getting more, but if you drained the engine oil and replaced the filter; 8 quarts before you start it.

how did the extra oil get in there?
Theoretically, one could've drained the tranny thinking it was the oilpan. Then poured 8 quarts in the engine to replace it.
