1969 axle to 1986 FJ60 disc brakes.

Lots of steps.

Short inner side matches FJ60 so it’s bolt in.
Long side. Smack old 10 spline birfield off the inner axle. Smack 60 birf off long 60 axle
Put 60 birf of 40 long side inner axle
Martack axle

Grind the housing to fit the bigger birfield.

Install new 60 series wheel studs in to hub.

Build knuckles out. Slow and steady. I had to play with the shims but I’ve got it smooth as glass.

Passenger side down. Shifting to driver after a Thin Mint and Diet Coke break

Nolan, another labor of love and a happy owner patiently waiting to receive this fine piece of artwork.

Also here is the place to get the white vinyl for the running boards/steps. Almost a perfect match.

That's great work and all, but the key is the thin mint/diet coke break... it's these key little steps that get lost in your builds. 😆
Also, looks GREAT, and I'm going to have to do this to my 70 FJ40 in my Old Blue Eyes build really soon... so at least I have what an "after" picture is supposed to look like!

I started in on Rosie this morning by putting the 4* caster shims onto the springs then realized my shackles and pins are at powder.

Then I got an email that my suppressor stamp got approved so I drove to town and had some lunch and got my can

Got home and cracked open the rear axle and then decided I was not feeling it so I loaded Red up and we are going to go see Air at the movie theatre.

Powder said my stuff is ready so I’ll be able to get the springs in after I rebuild this rear axle tomorrow.

Hope you're keeping all of the old hard to find parts for us drum brake, F carbed, and course spline purists. My gut feels like I`m being stabbed and the knife twisted every time you undo the original stuff on one of these oldies, I like your builds anyway! ;) :zilla:

If you prefer to not enjoy the way they ride and drive by all means keep them stock

No, I toss the stuff mostly. If you want to pay for shipping this heavy stuff I’ll dig it back out of my dumpster for you.

I don't mean offense. I enjoy how my mostly original old Toyotas ride and drive. Just hate seeing old parts getting tossed.

What exactly would you need? Like I said, if you want something just ask. I personally think the drum brakes are horrible. People that come to me to build their vehicles are not looking for period correct builds. They are looking to enjoy their vehicles safely at speed and enjoy the way they ride and steer. I think modern Toyota upgrades are necessary to do that.

I don’t get offended but I can’t keep all this crap I take off vehicles around here.

I used to send all my smog parts to a guy in LA until he decided to not pay me for the last setup I removed.

If you or anyone else in the community wants to pay me for my time to pallet up old 10 spline and ball and claw stuff I will be glad to do it. That takes time but I will gladly do to if you tell me what all you want.

My current employer Brendon asked me to take Red to dinner on him so we cut out and went to see “Air” (which was awesome) and hit a new place in town called the Twisted Turnip.

Home by 7:30. Thanks you sir. We enjoyed it.

I am pleased to hear you had date night!! Looks pretty good!! And glad you enjoyed! 🍺🍺

This method of breaking apart the 55 year old bond between axle and third member is handy for old folks

When I pull 3rds for a swap, I always put the rear from the donor into the front. That way the 3rd with the least amount of use is moved to the rear.

I like “old folks” tip(s) of the day….There’s a Thread Title.

Kind of agree with both of you, but I tend to be more on the side of improve it with newer parts. I'm putting 60 series knuckles etc on a '73 and I've tried to salvage the brake drum parts but the drums had to be cut off and the cage in one of the birfs put up a fight and lost. I know I'll never reuse any of the drum brake parts so if I have too much difficulty in dismantling the grinder or heavy hammer comes out.

Got the 3.70 installed into the rear. Discs will be here in a week or so. Put a new seal in both 3.70 pinions. Lots of cleaning to make sure the paper and cork gaskets are effective.
