My truck is white and so was the top, I thought it looked like ass so I painted it a hammer tone silver to match the rims. It is dark here or I would take a picture.

When I had the top on the floor in my shop painted I was regretting my color choice and thought about repainting it black, but now that I have it on the truck I like it.

To all that are worried about the heat, the only time your hard top should be on is when it is cold out and you need the heat from the sun then, Otherwise your top should be off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:meh:

Thanks for all the responses. I am learning at a very slow rate. Hence the lack of pics. I'm a little embarrassed of my progress compared to others on this site. I think white does in fact look right. Just wasn't sure how it would look with the color I chose. If anyone was curious, I plan on going with a light metallic green that is on my wife's 2003 Honda Element.

Oh, and sorry for the misuse of word restore. I have now switched to a '73 motor. Turned out the 74 I bought for the drivetrain was a total p.o.s. and I was stupid for buying it. motor-junk, trans-junk, transfer case-junk. I am using the bell housing, brake booster/master cylinder, roll bar. It certainly has been a learning experience. Oh...and my wife did drive with me from central IL to Dallas TX last weekend to pick up the 73 motor. She loves me...hates the fj.

Cool...sounds like you have a plan coming together

Quick question...as I have to ask...what date was the '74?? Reason I ask is because if the red rig in your other thread was the red '74, it looks like you have a special F.5 engine, (F engine with the oiling of the 2F)...and those who have these engines love them!!

The one in the other thread is the '74. Manufacture date is nov '74. I did get it to run, but when I took off the oil pan to replace main seals and oil pump, I saw the most pitted up cam and baked on sludge I have ever seen. It was about 5 times cheaper and 100 times easier to get the motor I have now. It has about 7 k miles on the rebuild and it came complete for $200. Long drive but worth the trip for sure.

Do what you want. We kinda like this silver/pewter arrangement. :grinpimp:

OH MAN this is gonna piss off the masses!!!!!!!! Send me a profile pic of this Green/Pewter combo. that looks pretty classy, but im sure to pull this combo foo correctly, the body color must be dark enough to accent to pewter. Send asap as my fiberglass is supposed to be in the booth by wednsday.

"sounds" like a deal

Hope it works out for you. Why was it pulled?

I didn't know any other color would actually stick.

Here is mine, but I would prefer white.

I was originally going to do red enamel. Recently I was able to paint with a metallic base coat/clear coat and it turned out great. I love the color of my wife's Honda. You all have talked me into going white roof and bezel. So I am going to shoot for the look of this fj/ with the color of this Honda. How it turns out will have to wait for spring. I'm out of money and the only thing I have left to sell are my two youngest kids. My wife won't let me sell them...at least not for the 40.

:crybaby:

Why?

White would be my first choice.

I was looking through some old photos and found a picture of my beloved Col. Mustard (aka '72 suburban). The white roof looks good. The fj is definately getting a white top.
