Stopped by classic cruisers in salida and had the pleasure of meeting Merl Un person. I purchased my rear frame from him a couple of years ago so he got to see some of his parts put to good use.

Pikes peak

Rolling coal @ 14k feet :)

Also visited manitou springs cliff dwellings

Haven't had much time to update but trucks running well. I crushed my passenger running board on one of the obstacles on Poughkeepsie gulch. Sucks because it had an easy go around. The hill which gave everyone the most trouble on that trail I went up without any trouble and no rear locker ;) one of the jeeps in the group actually had to winch up it. Another of the jeeps broke down shortly after with a clutch problem. Also passed a jeep with a broken axle on the ouray side of engineer pass. They seemed to be dropping like flies lol. We didn't have any trouble on the trails. Headed back toward Alabama and the miserable heat. Covered 710 miles today!

cool trip

Havent updated this in a while mainly because I haven't done much work to the truck lately. It does what I need it to do and I've been pretty busy with other projects. I did fix a somewhat pesky problem its had ever since I redid the doors. in cold weather you could feel a draft coming from the interior door handle because I never bothered to put a moisture barrier back in. problem solved :)

Evidently you aren't a fan of that black mastic tape , either ? LOL - I hate that stuff , and whoever used it on mine to help seal off the door panel will be shot , quartered and burned if I find them . They ran a strip all the way around the driver's side interior panel - in hot weather it oozes out and gets everywhere ...arrrgghh .
That rig looks so good....way jealous .

Roma I started a thread on a couple door parts that I was not sure where they went. One was a spring that goes over the window crank and the other was this part. Any idea?

That look like one of the locks for the rear barn door. It clamps two of the rods together to actuate the upper and lower latches on the driver side barn door. There should be two of them. do you have a picture of the spring your are referring to?

Just finished this thread... Outstanding. Love the cruiser, how you've modified it, and the excellent trips you've taken. An inspiration to be sure.

Now I'm on to read about your engine swap. =)

Thanks! its amazing how feedback positive or even negative gets me motivated to update this thread. If I could give some advise to someone it would be to buy factory Toyota parts anytime they are available no matter the difference in the up front price. im currently in the process of refreshing some of the small original parts that I initially didn't replace or recondition and also replacing some of the aftermarket parts I did replace but have been unhappy with. The turn signals and tail lights for instance are less the 3 years old and look far worse than the original 1975 Toyota turn signals that came off of tucker's truck. I'll update the photos soon enough and have my next long haul off road adventure already in the works for the this year :)

I have to be careful reading this thread, you are about to pull me over from the Jeep world!

Turned some parts in to get powder coated. Also found a good used inside ambulance door handle and turned it in to get coated I disassembled it and had the springs and striker zinc plated. The one in my truck was missing the handle when I got it and also had a broken plastic lock piece

rear heater back together and installed

when i installed a moisture barrier in my doors a couple of weeks ago i noticed that my inner door handle surrounds were in rough shape with a lot of cracking. i was surprised to find out they were still available and relatively cheap. new inner door handle surrounds

powder coated bits going back on :)

also purchased some new land cruiser side emblems since they are still available. the new ones have some black around the lettering which had long disappeared on mine. before and after

I also finally bit the bullet and purchased a winch cover. its been one of those items ive always wanted but there was always something else that needed to be purchased before. I actually prefer the look without the cover but the cover should keep the cables and solenoids out of the weather and increase their service life.

Also replaced the dome light with with one that actually works, Tucker gave me one of his since a previous owner had installed 4 in his truck! The switch had been frozen up in mine since I had purchased it and I had never bothered to fix it. I did free the switch but it was a mircro switch and the light still didn't work. The new dome light switch has a completely different switch but looks identical externally. (possibly an upgrade in design) Now I have light! I am really impressed by how much light the little thing puts out! no more using the headlamp to read the map on the side of the road on my adventures!

I also found the time to tackle another small project. Ever since I purchased the truck in 2010 the rear marker lights never worked nor did the tag light. When I replaced the tub I had found that the two small harnesses that run from the tail light harness up to the rear marker lights had shorted at some point and had melted all the wires together. At the time I was throwing the truck back together to go on one of my trips so I simply unplugged the small sub harnesses and threw them in a box. Well doing all the small detail work on tuckers made me want to fix some stuff on mine. I found the harnesses I had removed and repaired them. all the connectors were in good shape so I just cut out the melted wires and soldered in new replacements. I also went ahead and purchased some new tag lights since mine were pretty rough looking with missing connectors and neither of the bulbs worked.
I had my very own photographer for this little project and you can see from the last picture she wasn't very happy when my "it will only take 15 minutes" turned into a couple of hours :)

generous amount of antiseize applied for future serviceability (the originals had a broken stud)
