Sorry about bringing an old thread back from the dead, but this saved me a lot of time and money. NAPA didn't have this in stock so I found it over at Autozone as Part number JA449 for $23.50 including tax.

I got one from Rock Auto. Selected a 2000 Tacoma, 2.7L, Under the "Electrical-Switch & Relay" category selected "Back Up Lamp Switch". There are four brands available, I went with the BECK/ARNLEY Part # 2011788, $18.19.

Comes with the washer, bolt on, plug in, fit and works great. Just did 9 days of wheeling in SE Utah, worked every time.
That's one hell of a find Tools and sherpa stuff like that should be in faq

And... the switch/sensor is likely in fine condition except the contacts. You can 'clean' the internal switch contacts by running a bit of current through the switch action, see:

Of course if there is mechanical damage - broken connector/plastic etc, then replacing it would be necessary.

cheers,
george.

More great info. I cleaned the OEM switch, hit the connectors with the 9v, but still no love. I found one of these replacements in stock at the local O'Reilly's for $23.

I was going through and found this thread of what problem I am having, now the issue I am running into is that this part number is very similar to the switch on my 01 4runner, but the connector end is different. Any ideas what this switch number might be?

The part number for the above switch is 84222-60081. It is the switch that tells the ecu that the transfer case in in neutral. I could not find a aftermarket version so I had to go to the dealer. My cost was around $55. Maybe someone can find a cheaper replacement.

As you know the 84222-12010 fails pretty often on our trucks. Its located on the transfer case, as well as the lockers, and causes the indicator on the dash to blink even when they're working. I recently had the one on the rear locker fail on mine and wanted a cheaper alternative than 60 bucks, so her you go. NAPA Pt# NS6421. Its a neutral safety/reverse light switch found on many toyotas and is exactly the same as the 84222-12010. Retail price is 22.49
Jake, do you know where this is located on the rear diff? Do you have a pic or diagram?

RESURRECTION!!

I just purchased the Rock Auto Part # BECK/ARNLEY Part # 2011788

$15 shipped.

What size socket or wrench is needed to get these out/in?

I have had some CDL issues on recent beach trips and finally crawled under mine today and “think” I found my issue! Lol... whole end broke off!

@Greenbean I used a stubby adjustable wrench for easier clearance. Looks like 27mm to me.View attachment 1839319

OK - I’ll bite. ;)

I am envious of that Crecent wrench with the MM etch - what’s the source?

That would be dang handy, and you ***better remember*** where you got it, I’ve got a nephew who would love one in his stocking for Christmas above the 2 I buy to stuff in my toolboxes. :D:D:D

Thanks guys, there’s enough room in there I was able to get the busted one out with a pair of vise grips‘s and I’m on my way to O’reilly‘s now to get a replacement reverse switch, even though it’s for my CDL. Hehehe

Channel Lock has that, I pretty much ignore it, don't find it useful. :meh:

Yep Channel Lock. I have a set that I bought years ago. Has mm on one side, inch on the other.

Markings are only useful when you want to get the correct sized spanner out the first time once sized with the crescent spanner. Though most of the time if you wrench/spanner enough you can pretty well eyeball the correct size. And toyota doesn't use too many head sizes.

The 10" one I have is model 810-10"

cheers,
george.

@LINUS Mine is a stubby Kobalt from Lowe’s. Not sure if the larger, or newer, ones have the same markings. Mine is years old.

@george_tlc is right, I mostly use the measurements for odd size stuff when I’m tired of guessing wrong and just wanna get it done. Then I take a pic of the measurement and file it away under the part name. But in this case, I didn’t actually have a 27mm wrench.

I gotta check them out then.....I’m becoming less a wrench jockey & more a check-cutter when it comes to my boat or the the Tundra, I can own it.

I’m getting to a point I rather spend a day on saltwater & trying to get fresh salmon over doing small Yota stuffums.

Heck, we’ll see what the future holds but frankly I like my days on water over most anything.
I’ve become pretty dumb on sockets > 14mm anymore.
I’ve no problem owning it, - just a different phase of life, yeah?

Haha, geting old I suppose......
