More pieces bolted on today, drivers apron, front marker lights and the blockoff plate for the heater hoses. Also swapped the crusty dipstick for a new one.

A few more hours of progress today:

Ran an extra ground to the turn signals

Made a rubber gasket for between the fender and apron

Hung the apron

And started installing the drivers seat.

I need to source some additional hardware for the seat and find the pivot bolts somewhere in the parts stash.

Are these turn signals still available? If so from whom/where?

With the 40 being at a different location, I am kind of dead in the water. Even if it were here I wouldn’t be able to get much done with the kids being home from school until at least 4/3.

I’ve spent some time acquiring the parts needed to button most of the mechanical up on the truck. The coil/ignitor is going to be on the fender but wiring wasn’t long enough. I’ll swap the FJ60 coil wire for a later 70s 40 wire (thanks @cruiseroutfit for being patient). @Coolerman made a custom extension for the ignitor to distributor plug.

I have tried a few different variations for an aux fuse block but haven’t been happy with the way mine turned out. Last night, I was searching for a harness for another build and stumbled across Painless’ version. It has switched power via relay and constant power in a pretty clean, compact package.

The newer style OEM fenders have holes to accommodate the newer style push in wire ties. This will help clean up the engine bay wiring for a stock appearance.

Ohio is a few weeks from opening up most activity. I am really looking forward to getting back on the ‘72.

Things have been pretty stressful as my wife has been working directly with the Covid patients, starting lines and managing airways. Luckily, her ICU isn’t and hasn’t been to capacity. She did spike a fever and cough but tested negative a few weeks ago.

On a positive note, our painters put a few more hours into the hardtop sides. 5 rounds of wet sanding from 800 grit to 8000.

I was also able to get the youngest out for a brief turkey hunt. We heard a bird in the distance but the smallish property limited our ability to move into a decent position. The boy is definitely hooked.

We have also used our time to start our small hobby farm up again with pastured broilers, layers, bees and 2 feeder pigs. The garden will be going in later this month.

I was able to sneak out this morning and put in some work on the truck. After installing the Painless auxiliary fuse/relay block, I decided to make some small changes to the Dakota/accessory wiring harness. A few more minutes of wiring connections and some cleanup and I’ll call it done.

Also was able to sort out the rest of the weatherstripping and make an order from CityRacer for the discontinued rubber, I couldn’t resist the air cleaner decal.

This afternoon I was able to complete the auxiliary fuse block install, finish cleaning up the Dakota wiring, and install the coil/ignitor onto the fender. Not much worth taking pics but now I can move onto finishing up the Vintage Air install. I did grab a picture of the dual momentary on-off-on switch I ended up using instead of the supplied SW1 and SW2 switches that are used to control the gauges.

i installed the vintage air system last year and very pleased with it so far. Still have to hook up the AC portion but the heater and controls work great.... and they look great and fit very nicely in the ergonomics of the FJ40. I had a dash pad spacer for mine, hard to tell from pics but looks like your dashpad is a little different than my 1976.

The ‘72 doesn’t have the radio cutout like the ‘76.
