Thanx, I kinda enjoy it at the moment. But then its my first time doing this big a body project. It alsi helps that you can't see most of it when its done so I can f**k up every now and then.:grinpimp:

Actualy got a few things done after all.
Cut the hole for the under floor storage in the new floor and made the fender sides fit in their correct position. On top is the metal that goes in to it. The top will probably stay open as it eill be covered by the deck.
Also made a small tool for my plasma cutter, I couldn't find one to fit the head of mine so fabed one up, nothing to put on the marked but it works for me.:hillbilly:

Looks good :D brings back memories from when I built mine.

No work done on the cruiser this weekend, the weather was to bad so I went with my wife to look at the horses.

One of the downsides of a small garage, you can not work with the door closed.

Got a visit from Jeagerbier on saturday, his cruiser is interesting.
Someone has put a lot of TLC in that rig. I like the wide front fenders and the SS spring perches in the back.

yes the weather is verily snowy in western europe right now.

makes for interesting offroading though :)

but slows down rebuilds. I dont even have a garage :frown:

The weather has turned, at least for the weekend so got something done.
Welded the last things for the cargo floor frame and cleaned it up. It was to cold for epoxy so I coated it with Brunox.
Got the plating for the rear cargo area cut to size and fitted.

It's the nose of our little Arabian horse, she is almost 20 months old now and the reason for making the underfloor storage.
My wife is going to race her in a couple of years and this cruiser has to tow the trailer.

Very sweet build-up....stay warm!!

I hate to ask...

How heavy/long is your horse trailer? How far will the 40 be towing it?

40s aren't rated to tow very much. That said I've towed a 14'x5' landscaping trailer (big enough to drive the truck on) all over town with a GVW of the trailer as high as 4000lbs (as much as a stock 40). Just something you might want to keep in mind, especially already working on the back of the 40. Can't see for sure, but make sure your trailer hitch is up to the job.:hhmm:

That is funny.......I thought it was some muscled up dude with a big tattoo and a wart on his back :D

I really did

If it's a single horse trailer the 40 should handle it but the motor has to be up to the task. I wouldn't tow very far tho. They are just not made for it and your gas mileage will suck. Also, not sure what type of terrain you are looking to encounter but It looks as if the storage area will reduce your angle of dismount greatly. Just curious as to what year models the rigs are. If pre 75 I would look to installing disc brakes at least in the front if towing.
Good luck

dude, he's in Holland, he can probably cross it east to west in, like, 40 minutes

terrain

just about the size of New Jersey and almost 100% flat - as in: you have never seen this FLAT

Holland is mostly flat as stated here, I do live in the most accidented part of it do. Still hills wont be a problem. The biggest distance will probably be 200km, however the 40 minits is not going to happen. Without traffic it takes at least double that.:D
We haven't got a trailer at the moment but will be looking at a 1,5 horse trailer and with horse it will be 1500 kg max, I think a lot less, arabs are not that big a horses.

Front brakes are discs rear drums.

The towing Hitch is lower then the storage so it will be almost impossible to hit anything with it.
As for milage it is regesterd as a LPG car so it will be easy to put that in, with fuell prices of arround $7,80 a gallon versus half of that for lpg I might put that in again.:hhmm:

My wife raced her previous horse in Endurance races up til a few years ago, three times Dutch national champion, and used a 1,6l Opel Vectra to tow the trailer, think the 40 can beat that.:hillbilly:

It sound like you've thought this through. Even with a stock F I've not had problems with hills. With a standard, 8 liters of oil, 16 liters of coolant, and a 4.3 liter truck motor you'll be fine. Especially towing a horse, you're not going to be racing to get there.

Problems are more related to braking and the trailer swaying. Be cautious in areas with cross winds. I don't know about your local laws, but I'd recommend having trailer brakes as well.

Where are you going to fit your LPG tanks? Most I've seen have been under the tail end where your box is, or above the floor in the back.

You can not get a trailer without brakes, if the trailer including load capacity goes over 750kg brakes are mandatory.
I have 2 possibilitys for the lpg, one is 2 small ones in front of the rear crossbrace or one in front of the cargo space, There is going to be a teak deck on top of the cargo area, hence the space under floor for the sadlle, so it will be out of site.
