Could the panels be made in 1/4 clear plexi glass? Would be to flimsy? Or would it allow a thicker plexi?

Cool product.

Im thinking you are right with too flimsy also in our heat anything plastic does fair well.

Visibility is only an issue on the PS, assuming while you are seated in the DS seat :p

Visibility  Everything I drive has the rear view mirror removed so rear panel are no problem if you learn to use your mirrors:flipoff2: The rear view in my newer LX is driving me crazy just being there. I need to figure out how to disconnect the wiring to the mirror to remove it.

Just because I could drive a uhaul around and use my mirrors doesn't mean I want that feeling in my 80. A huge part of what I love with the 80 is the visibility. No stupid thick blind spots like the FJ cruiser, etc. You asked for inputs, that's my input and I agree with jcardonia. but I am not going to buy one so my opinion there is moot.

Polycarbonate sounds good. Never used it but it sounds like a great material. I was also questioning because of loss of visibility. Either way I am not worried about security really. 3/8" does seem bit thick. I think oem glass is closer to 1/4"

I'm sure Phil could shine some light on the question.

Im thinking Polycarbonate would yellow in no time in AZ.
For my intent of installing shelves behind the flip up a solid panel works.:grinpimp:

3/8's isn't bad when you consider you're replacing 2 overlapping panes of glass, but I am of the opinion, bigger is better. Lol

How are you cutting holes in this glass? People are all over the price as it is glass and cutting 6 holes does not sound cheap and then consider the weight:eek:

Cutting holes in polycarbonate you can drill it just like wood or metal.

And the density of poly carb is less than 1/2 that of aluminum. 1.2g/cm3 vs 2.7g/cm3 so you could use a sheet that is more than twice as thick and still be lighter.

With side mirrors you have no blind spots just say'n

I actually used a tinted polycarbonate on a busted window on a cover on my old tacoma. Worked great. Easy to cut and only way you could tell the difference between it and the other windows was that it was more scratched than the others. It may have been a little thin and therefore had a little more flex than the other windows as well.

Just did quick google on UV poly looks to be some awesome stuff Should/could work with no problems

Sorry for starting the can o worms Phil.... I think it would cool though. It could be tinted and really look like OEM. I am willing to be a ginnie pig...

Whats the new time frame for production? I still dig the original simple aluminum panel.

Just an option and I think it would present a more finished look.

We will be using CNC router to cut the aluminum panel. Maybe I will have him cut a poly panel and try to tint to match. You can tint poly, yes? Any recommendation where to purchase and what to spec on a poly panel?

Not at all poly panel tinted to match our existing windows sound pretty cool and a good option for any use.

Poly close to OE shade would be very cool in my view.

No you can't tint poly with film, you need to buy it tinted

Well that's a bummer. Why can't it be tinted with film? Do they make it in diff. levels of tint?

I have been seeking approval by some of the local guys before I commit to the CAD drawing. Once I'm 100% on the finish the CAD drawing are a few beers away by a friend who runs a wire CNC machine. I purchase the last hinges from my supplier but she assured me a new batch were on order everything else it readily available. Not a good answer but the truth be told I find myself going in too many direction at any given time, adult ADHD.
