Hey guys, those windows are awesome and I've always loved the idea, but it's okay for Jose to state the obvious without a lynch getting thrown over a tree, right?

There's 100 very interested guys reading this thread thinking exactly what Jose typed and then the 4 atypical 'mudders', who ironically won't even buy the product, chiming in telling us about the value of 'their time' and their desk jockey version of what it takes to build stuff and the $....

I doubt the OP was looking for feedback on how one should value their spending dollars. Comes across as an insult to me and surely others. I don’t need anyone’s advice here on how to spend my money.

Very nice window BTW

It's a public forum sir. If public feedback is gonna hurt your feelings, don't ask for it. For gods sake, if what Jose said was 'an insult', how do you get through life each day?

Similar to underdawg asking for bumper opinions and then getting frustrated/abusive when two dozen guys, who won't even buy the product, tell him exactly how they'd like it altered...

All opinions aside, the window thing is awesome. Something many, many of us wish our trucks had instead of that dumb rear slider few ever use. It would be SOOOO handy while camping.

These trucks are $5-6000 (anywhere/anytime/any craigslist) for an excellent example. Cosmetically challenged, good DD candidates are approaching $3000. Regardless of what you can find in mud classifieds, or what you 'enthusiasts' wanna tell yourselves. It's time to embrace their cheapness. The day of the high dollar 80 series gold mine product is over. It is but a fancy(super cool) 18-25 year old toyota that gets s*** gas mileage and has a drivetrain that generally outlasts the ancillaries(all head gasket blowout rumors aside), nothing more.

Currently they are indeed "cheap to buy", no doubt about it. On the other hand new replacement parts from Toyota cost well more than they did when these things were new.

In October 1995 a 43405-60070 birfield had a published list price of $519.68. Today that very same birfield is a mere $866.14.

Aparently Toyota still thinks it is a gold mine........:)

Increase of $60 accounting for inflation.

Such deep. So poetry.

I'll shut up now since I'm losing e-points. I'm anxious to see how many will put their money where their mouth is and actually buy a pair. In the meantime I'll go fondle the Hellfire knuckles I just bought which ironically cost the same as these sheets of aluminum.

No beef in any of this and my opinion matters not but for much less money you can fix up the 80 front end easily. Like nearly for free plus the steering kit you already have installed. Hellfire's are great, I am glad they are out there but they were really designed for the mini truck and 4-runner crowds who want to fit an 80 front axle. I looked long and hard at them and don't see what major benefits they provide that a guy can't do with a few tools found in most shops.

I like the lift up windows. After just doing nearly 3-weeks living out of my truck in Baja I can see huge benefits to having a set up like this. Are they worth near $900 to me? I buy quality products for my truck and do my best to support vendors on here, customer service also goes a long ways with me. I would easily spend an extra $200 on a set from Phil over another vendor if I liked his design more and his customer service is top notch. Can I make some for under $900, maybe but as was said a bunch time is money and just the time sink alone into sourcing all the right parts from scratch would be huge for me as I am very picky.

Cheers

Anyone here dumb enough to buy a birfield from toyota?

Yes.

Hence the issue.

For me this is on the top of my list, Romey can you hear me;)

Wouldn't mind doing something like that, maybe big map of Baja on one side and mainland Mexico/Central America on the other or just all the Americas since that is where I like to travel and where I plan to take my 80.

Cheers

You forgot to add: FJ80 owners who want something more than spacers and yellow shocks. It's the reason why Billy said he won't come on this site. It's not meant for a stock 80. It involves redoing the suspension which is what I'm doing.

But it's just apples to toothpaste at this point.

That's rather presumptuous, don't you think?

I got more than yellow shocks. My front end rocks and flexes plenty for a super heavy pig with tons of sheet metal. My truck does what I ask it to do. If I wanted to rock crawl a Toyota I would buy a mini or 4rnr. Different strokes for different folks though.

BTW, got a truck in my driveway on 40's with portal axles, linked with 7075 2" waiting for new c/o's, bumps, steering and a super sweet TD plus NV4500 and Atlas. I also don't care if I beat the crap out of it. My 80 is my DD and adventure truck.

Cheers

This is an interesting thread to watch. One of the things I love about the forum is that its a great place to exchange ideas and I think everyone is entitled to their wrong opinion regardless of content or comment, potential purchaser or provider. Capitalism sorts out most things

Our price point although not 100% confirmed is $444.44 Per Window
Strong interest will support the price point.

Thoughts?

Got no bone to pick on either side but I do hate to see this normally friendly forum all mad at one another. One man asked for thoughts, another man gave his. What's the problem?

FWIW, I think it's a nicely executed set-up for those that want that sort of thing.

To put the cost discussion to rest the price point has been lowered to hopefully $19.95

All Im looking for is product input

Thanks

All right! Count me in! I assume this includes free shipping? They'll also be available on Amazon right?

Okay guys, I received 5 complaint reports in the last hour on this thread. I am not going to change anything but keep the thread on topic or create your own thread in chat if you want to talk about something else

I think this is awesome. I need to replace my window runs and would much rather buy these (at least one on DS). And will this spring when I finally do this.

FWIW, I bought my 1992 FJ80 when I was 16. My father told me it was "too much money and will never last" and "nobody would pay that kind of money for a rice burner." He tried to get me to buy an "American Jeep." Well, I "overpaid" for my poverty pack 80 with no moonroof, no running boards, no roof rack, etc because it was designed well and I knew it would last. Even back then I knew what life cycle cost was (although I didn't call it that). 22+ years later it sure doesn't seem like I "overpaid". ;)

I don't have fabrication abilities of any sort so I rely on others to come up with cool ideas and bring them to market. I'm thankful for the folks on Mud who have cool ideas and the ability to build things AND the willingness to share them with the rest of us. If they get to buy a few cases of beer or tanks of gas with my money, awesome. Or maybe use it to design something else cool. :)

Thanks Phil.

They're on Amazon for $19.95? Prime?

I like them, but I could only really see their use being for someone who wasn't using 3rd row seats and who had drawers or a rack of sorts that they had to access from the side. For my DD use, I don't see a need for them, I think even at $19.95 I wouldn't have a use, and that's OK. If I had storage in the back, with drawers, slides, and something to access from the side, these would be perfect. Great design.

I fall into this exact category. Flip up windows are on my short list.
