Exactly, mounts with bolts, it's solid and in place. Has openings to access compartment. Then you can mount whatever you'd like on the outside.

Im having a hard time visualizing without pictures or drawings

I wouldn't go for anything that you couldn't put the factory plastic back over. I like the security aspect of stealth storage:poof:

I'd go with a panel with a combination of threaded holes maybe but include MOLLE/PALS compatible slots cut for enclosed military style pouches. I'd do whatever wall panel you have in mind with the MOLLE/PALS slots too. Endless uses with that setup.

I'm on the fence about this. I would indeed love to retain the factory panels since I don't have an issue with my perfect quality, non-scratched, non-UV damaged specimens. BUT, I also have WagonGear's cargo panels in my 60 and I love the look and utilization. So if they look good too, I'd rock em.

Why not just rivet webbing to the factory panels?

Ugh, I was visualizing EXACTLY that but the MOLLE name just didn't pop into my head. What DISSENT said, rock out with your MOLLE out.

Funny story about MOLLE...

I was in Beverly Hills on Jan. 17th for my son's birthday dinner. I was pulled over in my 60:

Officer #1: "Do you know why I pulled you over?"

Me: "Because I'm not driving a Ferrari, Rolls or Maserati?"

Officer #2: (at the passenger window) *laughs*

Officer #1: (stares at officer #1) "no sir not exactly, but its funny you should say that"

Me: "Because with my sunglasses on you figured I was hispanic and now you feel bad because you realize I'm Italian?"

Officer #2: (laughs again as he walks behind shining a light into my truck)

Officer #1: *shakes his head and smiles* "No sir, I pulled you over for using your cell phone"

I won't go into my "discussion" about the actual ticket but...

Officer #1: "Sir I notice you have a military bag on the passenger seat. Do you have any weapons in that bag."

Me: "Nope, its my laptop bag"

Officer #1: "It looks like a military field bag"

Me: "No it doesn't. It looks just like an Oakley laptop bag in green that has some Molle straps that allows me to add some other little bags because they won't fit in the laptop bag"

Officer: #1: "you do realize that having a military-type bag in the open like that gives me reasonable cause to check it?"

Me: "Umm, no it absolutely doesn't"

Officer #1 and #2 walk back to the their car again and left me sitting there for an additional 20 mins.

Officer #1: "Ok I'm citing you for using your cell phone while driving, sign here....blah blah blah"

Me: *grumble grumble grumble*

Officer #1: "BTW, it was a Ferrari that I pulled over right before you"

Both of these officers look like they JUST got out of high school.

Oh, and I was an hour late to my son's birthday dinner, boooo.

Anyway, back to our regularly scheduled program.

Good question. My thought was the speaker grill would work for in bound air. Other than that to don't have a solution. The Viair does get hot to the touch when going. On my previous Jeep I had it mounted in the engine bay with no issues. I can't see it getting any hotter in the quarter panel than under the hood.

Yeah, heat is definitely a killer with the ViAir compressors...

Back in the day, I wanted to use a 450c to fill twice the rated tank capacity (10 gallons)

ViAir said it would overheat and void my warranty, so I spoke with one of their techs about making a cooling system using a couple of fans and came up with this....

One fan sucks in cool air from the bottom of the box, blows it directly across the head of the compressor, then another fan sucks out all of the hot air :)

Previously, with the box open and the compressor filling just one 5 gallon tank from 0-150psi, the head would get hot enough to sizzle spit

But with a closed box and the fans on, I could fill two 5 gallon tanks from 0-150psi continuously for air tools all day long and the head would be cool to the touch

Showed ViAir my setup and they agreed to let me keep my warranty

Not that I ever needed it, they make good compressors and I've never had an issue other than a bad check valve in the leader hose :hmm:

In fact, I just relocated the same compressor to the left side of the chassis cause I didn't want it on my new rack

Seems to be working well under there.....

Same compressor I have. After pulling it from the Jeep I been using a similar tool box method like you minus all the goodies. For being a small compressor is it's been a never ending battle to figure out the right place to mount it.

Jeebus 98 snake, are those huge train horns on your roof rack?!

Hijack over

Under the truck off the frame rail.
That's one plan I have been mulling over. There are some unused bolt holes on the cross member above the rear axle. It would work out good there since my tank is mounted on the DS frame using holes left over from the factory tire carrier underneath.

I mounted mine on the DS rail with a 3 gallon tank

Not as much air as I'm used to, but it will do for now until I can weld up a few more tanks and space them out.

Regarding Flexitank, I ordered mine the same time that @unwiredadventures ordered his. Not sure if he still has is. The quality of the unit itself seemed pretty good so I was happy there. As previously mentioned I could not get it to full install so I just used a zip tie to get it all snug. The sloshing of the water drove me nuts, kinda like the (2) 5-gal Scepters do now :bang:

As part of the instructions it says to not leave the water in the bladder, just use it for your trip and then empty. Well I didn't. The taste of the plastic migrated into the water so I treated it as non-potable water which is not what I had hoped for. I finally drained the water and the next time I went to use it there was a mildewy smell. Between all of these things and the fact that it takes up the ENTIRE passenger side cargo area, I finally just removed it. I personally wouldn't recommend it but others may find it useful if just using for washing dishes or bathing or?

Regarding the PS cargo area, the entire side panel is ridiculously easy to remove. Its about 10 clips worth of time. So 2 minutes. Once inside there is a TON of space. Unlike the 60 series, there are not vertical struts that need to be removed. I was desperate for Shane to make the entire cargo panel like I had discussed with him but he seems to be in jail or rehab or on his yacht or who knows so I've given up hope on that.

The cubbyhole is freaking useless and can be remove by snipping off about 4 plastic rivets, FYI.

If there is an inset panel made that attaches to the clip holes then there is a whole slew of items that could be installed in that space. I would concentrate on items that do not need constant care such as: Fuse Panels, Relays, Charge Controllers, Motorcycle Battery, Inverter, Amp, etc etc etc etc.

I would love to further discuss options concerning this. Its killing me that no one has been able to design a panel for this. Including myself. Here os what I was considering:

The only thing I don't like about my flexi tank is the fact that it pops the panel open when near full. I'm gonna have to get something stronger to hold it. I don't use it for drinking so I'm able to put an ounce or two of rubbing alcohol in the water to make it just strong enough to kill bacteria (think beer) and it's still fresh and clean after a whole summer of almost daily use. I have read that you can clean it between uses with a baking powder solution, which would keep it drinkable and clean. It certainly makes sense.
I love it and only rarely hear it slosh. The best part is it takes that big 5 gallon can out of the back, opening up more much needed room.

Any installed pictures you can post?

Do you options with the Flextank on where the inlet and outlet are placed in the panel. My concern for my application is the battery I have located against the panel and the fender well limiting space.

I took the plastic cargo piece out, carefully cut out the inside "pocket", lined with sound deadening, and installed an inverter in there along with lots of wiring. All the switches, etc were mounted on the plastic outer panel. I also installed a viaair system, mounted the pump in the open so as not to cause too much heat. Pics are in my sig line in my 80 thread build.
