Radiator choices other than CSF

I'd certainly pony up for OEM, but I'm very leery of having radiators shipped, particularly from half-way around the world. I gave up on mail-order radiators because they almost always arrive damaged, particularly the large metal ones. Every one I've ordered has had the fill-neck bent or fin damage, even with double-boxing.

So I usually just try to order from local pickup so I can inspect at purchase. I end up paying more, but far less aggravation.

I bought the champion off amazon. Showed up in good condition. Not a direct bolt up.
One of the bracket studs broke off when i was tightening it, they sent me a replacement the same day. That was a couple weeks ago and i have not put it in yet.

Partsouq shows 2 radiator options for FJ60: 1640061050 for 2f FJ60 USA, and the 1640061051 2f FJ60

both are NLA. So where does the 16400-61090 come from? what vehicle is it supposed to go in? How does it differ from a stock FJ60 radiator? Is it plug and play? As in fan shoud lines up, mounting lines up? same volume? what cap? @mattressking

The Toyota radiators nowadays aren't any better than the CSF. Maybe worse. They're not built like they were 30 years ago. All the metal is thinner. I wouldn't be surprised if they were both made at the same factory (in Thailand). The CSF looks exactly the same visually in every detail to the Toyota radiator. That would be pretty impossible to accomplish by a third party manufacturer.

I had a friend who had to replace 2 new genuine Toyota FJ62 radiators because both of them had pinhole leaks oozing coolant immediately after installing. His third install worked- no leaks.

I’m probably waiting too long to buy an oem. I know this.

CSF customer service didn’t respond. I wasn’t anything game chaining to be said by them, but at least a “no” would have been nice.

This game is making it hard to justify keeping the 2F centered rig going.

Definitely. The 2F had its purpose back in the day (decades ago) when everything was new and it would run forever & you could stake your life on it getting you home from Timbuktu (that's why I liked it - for long Mexico trips) but nowadays it's an ancient anachronism. A brand new factory built 2F with all the other associated goodies surrounding it being brand new would still be a very attractive option (for reliability), but these 30 year old things? Not so much.
Time and miles have eaten away the main attraction to the 2F. Now it's just as unreliable as anything else, if not more so.

I find that the core motor itself is bullet proof. It’s all the small things:

-emissions computer triggers a misfire. Bypass that with the green wire mod after a week of parts replacing.
-can’t buy a good radiator
-oem ps pump was $500 and some change to get in. Now my box leaks. Need $1000 to go to an 80 series with 105 upgrade
-having no ABS is killing me with the nasty oily streets we have. It’s not fun.

All of these small things are cutting into my locker fund.

I’ll spend money on top quality parts, but only if they’ll last. Did I mention that I thought about parting it down to a shell and buying an 80?

I did the 80 series without the 105 upgrade for <$225.

80 series is an option but they are also showing their age and Toyota is dropping support of that model also.

Awful lot of complaining about 34 year old trucks, many of which have had heavy usage over those 34+ years.

Go spend $55,000 on a comparable J**p or Rover and see what you have to deal with. The amt of problems they have is unbelievable and heaven help you if you have an electrical issue on one of those nightmares'.

80-series isn't any cheaper, it's just the parts availability is better and is at what the 60's were 10 years ago.

If you really want a HD old-school 4 core radiator, I'd look into having one made. Particularly if you've got one for them to use as a pattern.... It's done all the time for classic vehicles and there's prolly a shop in every large city that does it.

You might call Sonny at fjparts.com and ask him what brand Radiator this is... I'd like to know also.

I’ve seen them about that price for used box only.

I get about 3-6 months between pesky problems. Otherwise it’s been solid.

The only untouched part of the truck now is the steering box and the bottom end

I bought a Champion for my 60 three years ago. No problems so far. I just recently placed a ground strap on it to keep demons of corrosion at bay.

Do you recall what bolts needed to be modified or changed for mounting?

What did you use? Where did you attach it?
