It’s going to have at least two rear drive axles. Probably just a single front axle.

Makes it easier to run the stern drive v8

Easy for me, but I’m a bit confused. How many axles or differentials is this rig going to have?

I built both 3rds and am going to be building the front housing, Nolen has the rear housing.

Since Justin is getting the 3rd ready I figured it was time to dive into this 70 series rear axle tear down

I chucked up the axle so I can get the proper pinion angle.

I had to move it from the table to the floor so I could wail on this rusty POS with a sledge hammer.

I’m not sure how I survived 51 years without a plasma cutter.

This Wuhon special is $180 on amazon and my buddy said it’s legit so I got it.

DAYUM.

Grinding and rewelding RuffStuff perches tomorrow then off to blasting.

Not sure why Ruff Stuff puts these nipples on the spring perches but they are gone now and the grinding and flap discing is done.

After @under_psi burns the perches on for me I’ll drop this 3rd out and this nasty bastard is off to Powder Keg for a blast and powder

“Allows us to make one spring perch for two different axle sizes”

From their video.

@middlecalf has it right. They started doing that a few years ago. First batch of perches and traction bar brackets I got I was confused too.

I was able to get some parts out of the Lions den last night. Donor housing from a 77 FJ40 and an FJ60 front for the knuckles and such. If you have never been to Metric in Grand Junction Co. Go walk around and scrape your jaw off the floor. I have been good friends with the owner since 2nd grade. Mike is a dam good dude, getting parts out of him is tough. But he understands what he has. If you want stuff done to your Cruiser they do too notch work.

Look at all those beautiful white tops.

Great job on the work being done on that thing.

Pulled the donor FJ60 housing apart to start cleaning. No matter how many of these things you do it's a greasy mess.

Nolen brought up the Harbor Freight junk so I will admit I use a few HF tools. This Shaker was around 100$ and I have used it forever to clean bolts and hardware. I get about a gallon of super clean boiling dump it in and shake for about 24 hours. Everything comes out spotless, rinse it with boiling water.

My brand new Lincoln 180 caught the Wuhon and the gas is not flowing to the tip so project 70 series rear housing is stalled. I’m going to go get a new hose tomorrow. I must have crushed this one somehow between Sunday and today.

Ensure that your wife is out of the the house if you're boiling Castrol super clean!
Hot super clean in a Shaker goes a long way.

Great build thread... Read cover to cover this fine day.

Took the fenders and the grill to my painter today to make the insides look like the outsides. Paint jobs like this are why I love my Patina builds so much.

So you set them exactly the same as what is under the truck?

I am asking because this is usually done when the weight is on the axle/suspension.

Cheers

I did. I have 2 axles here to pull all the numbers off of. I got the caster dialed in and the holes correct and they are on.

We are not going with any goofball long shackles so they will be good in the stock position.

The third member was coorperarive and popped right off. I got some of the new parts sorted that came from the Middle East
