I wasn't ready to like them red beauty rings as much as I do!

Nice going! Original and very cool!

I still think the best rims (no bias of course... ;) )....

The last chassis vestige of the Land Cruiser heritage with the 200 series is, IMO, steel wheels.

If you were a REAL old-school guy, you wouldn't need steel wheels...

You just Flintstone it...& stick your feet through the floor...and RUN real fast. ;)

-Like these Russians...

Another instance of measure 3 times and cut ... ;)

For sure. I did a 200 snorkel in 2009 on an 08 with under 500 miles and at the time it was a pretty new install and the "quirks" hadn't been fully discovered. The end fit was great and I've done a few since. I still hold my breath each time I take a hole saw to a perfectly clean fender :D

Hi Onur - can you source these for us?

Hi Kurt - can't tell you how happy I am that you are building a 200!

Steel wheels are available, I was hunting them down for another customer. I've got another Cruiser running the utilitarian 20+ hole steel wheels, I dig them on old Cruisers but they don't work for me on a 200 but I can see how others dig them. I know where a grip of split-wheels are too but they might be 16" and won't clear the 200 brakes.

I could get into a black set of this style steel wheel

So is the draw to steelies because you can bang them back into round with a hammer on the trail?

Awesome, Kurt. Thanks for sharing the build thread and looking forward to following along!

Purel aesthetics and cost I suppose? I totally get that. Sure a steel wheel is more field serviceable, but on a 200 Series, not something I'm worried about. Hell we race the Baja 1000 and Vegas to Reno on the TRD Rock Warriors... They are tough.

Did you install a diff drop kit when you did your lift?

Thanks.

I did not and I don't know that I have any immediate plans to install. The CV angles at ride height are not drastic and I'm not getting sever boot chaffing like we see in some IFS lift CV's. I chatted with Christo about this subject and he didn't feel it was crucial enough on his own 200 either. It might be something I revisit as times goes on.

I had the same conversation with Slee.

I believe it, as just looking at the CVs of the 200, they are almost angling UPWARD compared to the 100.

Thank you. It's interesting that many people are not installing diff drop kits when they do lifts on the 200. It seemed it was standard practice on the 100. I guess things have changed and the design is different on the 200. I am still debating whether or not to do one. My lift is going on in about a month.

Yes the design is quite difference. We sell and install many many diff drop kits, particularly for the 100 (we offer the Slee unit) and we recommend them on any 100 seeing 1.5-2" of lift. The 200 just doesn't get the same boot interference. We run stock CV's on our race 200 Series and while we service/replace the CV's on a somewhat regular maintenance schedule as we race prep, it's never because of premature boot wear and they are often running at quite a steeper angle.
