got the body mounts finished. they bolt to the plates that the roll bars will weld to.

I really like how someone lit the fire under you!!;)

it was Brock. he was asking almost daily, "when are we going to start my cruiser?" with all the major parts in our possession, I had no excuses. he is still helping and suggesting ideas every step. the kid has some good knowledge already because what he suggests was mostly what I was thinking too.

which, by the way, the flat bed we worked on is already on graph paper and I have the steel. we held the gas tank in place and took measurements together and made a design. that may be next...

started the bed today. I ran out of grinder wheel and chop saw blade. the center pieces will be where the gas tank mounts. more tomorrow.

bed is mostly done. still needs mounts for the fuel tank, and the front roll cage mounts. I mocked it up with the fuel tank held up w/ a ratchet strap.

question for you 80 guys, what are the dimensions of the fzj80 fuel tank, especially the height at the fuel pump?

also, what is the fuel pressure delivered by that pump?

Shawn-- I will measure one for you when I get it in. I just ordered a new 80 tank for a customer.

The FP sits on a bracket inside of the tank all the way down near the bottom. I have a spare bracket and sender as well as a spare fuel pump if you are interested.

awesome. thanks for getting measurements. I have searched high and low and only find fuel capacity or the long range tanks.

I very well may need the braket and pump. it may depend on if I end up going with a 80 series tank. do you know what the pressure delivery of that pump is? I have one from a LT1.
I plan to add an 80 tank, or cut open the 60 tank and add a fuel trap, depending on the height needed for the pump assembly.

I think Toyota consistently used 43psi for all their EFI systems.

25.3 US gallons, published capacity.

that is a funky shaped tank! trying to think of how to mount that under the flat bed... I assume it has a fuel trap of some sort inside where the pump goes?

I may have to go with a custom one, but even the pump hole is different shaped to use the right pump and sending unit... hmmmm. what does the underside of it look like?

and thanks a ton with that info! very helpful.

If memory serves there is sort of a low "box" where the pump sits. Kind of like a basket for a swamp cooler pump.

I wonder if a tank from an FJ62, or even a mini-truck would work. The mini's are shaped like a stick of butter.

any tank from a carburated engine won't be any better because the fuel pump can't be allowed get any air when the vehicle goes at a steep angle and fuel level is low. a fuel injected tank has some sort of fuel trap to hold fuel around the uptake tube. like this-

these are racing applications here, but the idea is the same. I had the trap from a Caprice when I build my 40. I cut open the tank to see it. can't find pics or the trap now. IIRC I couldn't get it out because it was monster glued in.

My 4Runner tank has a tray in the bottom that the pump fits in.

is it fuel injected? if so, does your pump put out the same 43psi? (probably since you stated they should all be similar pressure). that would be easier to find and along the lines of what Marc suggested, as long as they have the tray.

my FJ60 tank I have doesn't have one...yet. though I found yesterday it is FULL of rust inside, I should be able to cut a square hole, clean it, weld in a trap like below and make an opening that looks like the 80 series hole and patch it in, then epoxy the tank to seal it. or just find another toyota tank for fuel injected engines that fits. just a few options that are affordable.

An FJ62 tank would be set up for an internal pump. Your only option there is used, new are discontinued.
