It seems pretty likely it was a “diff kraken”that sleeps under rocks in the forest and waits for the exact right moment to reach up and crack your diff into a rock. That’s my main theory- either that or the 4runner diff bracket is a s**t design. The funny thing is, I can’t find another instance of this happening on any other 4runners, prados, gxs or tacos… so it probably was a “diff kraken”.I was 30 feet behind you when you went over that rock and to this day I have no idea how that rock hit your truck. I thought you stopped to take a picture of the pond that was off to the left.
Thanks @JohnVee This does look like a better design than the 4R/120/150/taco front diff arrangement for casual flat open trails that may have small rocks sticking up. Can you sense my eye twitch? Rock rock rock diff diff diff diff land cruiser 4runner land cruiser. Gack gack gack… I was told this 4runner was the off road version... Hello- is this the off road version? Hello? Toyota? Hello? I was told this one could go off Road...
The AHC was in the high position… but it did look higher than the frontThe rear of that LX looks high, no?
There is some amount of surface rust underneath and some corrosion on some lines that run along the bottom of the tailgate (do you know what those are?) that I want to look more closely at… also had told her I was going grocery shopping when I left homeWhy didn't you do the swap then and there? @Diff Kraken wife will be happy and you'll be happy you're finally in a cruiser!![]()
It has spent its life in New York and New Jersey so there will probably be more rust than normal. There is some amount of surface rust underneath and some corrosion on some lines that run along the bottom of the tailgate (do you know what those are?) that I want to look more closely at… also had told her I was going grocery shopping when I left homeso it would have been a little much to bring home a new vehicle without a heads up.
Yup- should I be scared? My thoughts are if the rust hasn't really damaged any components to go ahead and replace all the bolts and coat the thing in fluid film to stop any progression. My fear is for cats, brake lines, AHC components... So I'll take a closer look at those and have the dealer put it up on a lift and pull the "skids"It has spent its life in New York and New Jersey so there will probably be more rust than normal.
You got a grocery getter in the process of getting groceries. I don't see any problems there..There is some amount of surface rust underneath and some corrosion on some lines that run along the bottom of the tailgate (do you know what those are?) that I want to look more closely at… also had told her I was going grocery shopping when I left homeso it would have been a little much to bring home a new vehicle without a heads up.
Now the city of DC tryin to tax me a 10% gas gussler tax if I make the purchase! That's tough to swallow... I just paid something similar on the 4R in April... bunch of commies over here. Since that 4R tax got financed and now will basically be rolled over into this new loan, that will be about $10k in DC tax built into the car loan! Part of me wants to wait until I move back to Virginia before swapping out the 4R.@Diff Kraken Nick, you’re giving me truck ADHD by association![]()
