Question in a clutch issue.

Friends 2001 taco has issues shifting after a clutch install. I'm thinking the "mechanic" did something off. Will only shift into first or reverse when the engine is off. Sometimes doesnt shift into other gears unless moving. Clutch pedal feels different than my 95.5, feels shorter and lighter. What should we check first?
Alternatively, anyone in Manassas area where she lives willing to lend a hand?

There are 2 adjustable rods; one between the pedal and master and the second between the slave and clutch fork. Check to see that the play is correct. Sorry, but I don't have the spec for a Taco.

Bleed the system.

Working on Jack’s 40. Truck was running well when we took it to a shop to have the system replaced from the manifold back. Drove it home and it runs horribly. We figured the fuel mixture may have changed with the sealed exhaust system, but when messing with carburetor, Jack tapped it with a rubber mallet and it just died. Happens every time. Thoughts?

Bad ground for the I don’t idle solenoid?

Took a break from house chores to catch the smallest catfish in the pond.

@Von Hayek you can try and swap out his carb with the one I just took off. See if it’s a carb thing or something else.
My old carb ran ok when I removed it.

Kind offer. I was messing with it a little more after that video and the throttle positioner was way off. It was set at about 2,200 RPMs when it should be 1,200. I set that, then we we reset the idle. Seemed to be running much better. We'll probably mess with a bit more, but I can't imagine any of that stuff would result in it cutting out with a slight tap from a rubber mallet.

Maybe the solenoid is getting wimpy and can’t keep the idle fuel valve open when the hammer hits ???
Maybe a bad connection to the solenoid (internal or external) and the hammer is enough to interrupt the circuit???

Why would replacing the exhaust require the carb settings to be changed? Blocked old muffler causing higher back pressure? 🤷🏻‍♂️
Or the exhaust people messed with the carb?

What am I working on...hmmm; need to clean out garage and rid or sell unused items. Time to flex the account; FB Marketplace.
