I agree, who needs another t-shirt? Masks would be more practical.

Started on back floor sub frame.

This week:

A) got an alignment done on the 40

B) installed new used OEM 79+ seats that I cobbled together from eBay. I had to buy three seats to make two good ones. It’s nice being able to recline.

C) mounted two Element fire extinguishers to the roll bar

Leaving at dawn tomorrow to go explore the off-road areas in Lincoln national park west of Alamogordo, NM. It’s high, 9000ft, with temps between 50-80 deg, perfect. Bringing my tent in case I decide to spend the night in the woods.

So this is a brand new X20 from Smittybuilt. Out of the box I notice some scoring on the reel. It looks like they had frayed steel cable wrapped around it scraped up whatever powder coat or paint they used on it. Now there are some metals spurs sticking up, which sort of concerns me when wrapping synthetic line around it.

Ive waited quite some time to actually get this bumper installed, and I really don’t want to return the winch and add more time to the wait. I definitely don’t want to install the bumper only to remove it down the road because of an issue.

I could probably just hit it with some light sandpaper and send it. What would y’all do?

If it was me I’d probably go through the pain of returning it. You paid for a new one and you deserve to get that, not a scratch and dent version.

I recently got a new 8274-70 and the first one I got was damaged in shipping, so I feel your pain. Sent it back and got a good one.

Call them and explain the situation, ask for a partial refund. They don't want the hassle of shipping it back, and shipping you a new one. Neither do you.

As far as it being a concern, I don't see at as one. Deburr it and install your rope. It won't be an issue, ever.

deburr it and put a layer of gorillia tape on it if your worried about it.

Update:

Smittybuilt tech support says that it’s “normal” wear from their test at the factory. The tech recommended sanding it down and spraying some paint on it, but that’s really only to make me feel better. He said it will be fine otherwise. Maybe they should consider testing with a synth line so this doesn’t happen?

Note: never ever order anything from 4wd.com, their customer service is non-responsive. Also the two companies are under the same ownership, but at least I could easily get to tech support for Smittybuilt. You get what you pay for.

Spent all day yesterday exploring the forest roads and wheeling in Lincoln National Park, NM. Camped out at 9000ft, was a perfect 53 deg this morning for morning coffee in the woods. Truck ran perfect.
