Hello -- i've been lurking for a couple of months, now posting to the forums. live in Reston. I hacked off the running boards today. Felt primal to saw through metal by hand yet appropriate on this primal truck. putting in new pioneer door speakers tomorrow.

ps. there is a really clean beige 80 series on the street near my condo with an ih8mud.com sticker on it. havne't seen it recently, it must be out adventuring for the summer ....

Yes, welcome. We have a meeting this coming Wednesday at Kilroy's and you are welcome to come check us out and let us check out your rig.

D rated tires seem infinitely more difficult to mount on rims than c rated tires, that is until you use the proper lubricant.

Picked up two treadwrights to size match the Yokohama metric 33s.

Soapy water didn't cut it this time. Just so happened to have some 3m lube for suppressors handy.
also changed my technique. Instead of double prying I put the wheel on top of a 15" rim and strattled the bead and used one small prybar. Took me about 3minutes per tire this way from 2hr attempted using the double pry method.
this is all after the tire shop refused to mount the retreads.

One hell of a day...

Even with all the body ache and head scratching I still prefer to do something myself .
Far more rewarding to build instead of buy.

I rebuilt a NASTY trollhole carb for tulax17. I am also planning on rebuilding another stock mid-80's carb if any one wants or needs one.

I got a new trailer!(new to me)

Yes it is wider. And heavier.

Finally tore the 80 front axle apart to replace the birf....it turned out to be the inner and the star that blew. I knew the arb was leaking a little and when I pulled it, found out that whoever installed the gears didn't think they needed loc tite. The remainder of the ring gear bolts were in the bottom of the housing!

Not a lot of action in here recently. Every one must be busy working on their junk.
Got my FJ back now rewired. Working on installing new seats. Anyone interested in a new Dakota Digital dash gauges etc? It didn't get used. I would let it go cheap - well less than $800 I Paid. Cheers Nick

I have an easy install of an FJ60 coolant overflow reservoir into my FJ40. I'm getting tired of watching the coolant just flow onto the ground and refilling every so often. Its easy in that I can mount it anywhere, but want to make it look good (the not-so-easy part). Anyone know where I can find some angled machined aluminum or steel to mount on the left radiator housing side ? The reservoir has the origial mounting bracket. I'll post some pics later this evening.

Check McMaster Carr and Grainger maybe

Yes, post a pic. I have some scrap aluminum that may fit the bill.
