Seems like the best solution, Nolan. A 20-year-old lead footed hotrodder shouldn't be allowed anywhere near this rig...And if he can’t trust it anymore, I’ll come write a check this week![]()

Perfect summary of my thoughts.Seems like the best solution, Nolan. A 20-year-old lead footed hotrodder shouldn't be allowed anywhere near this rig...
But they drove it without the hose, and coolant (?), asked if it “would make it?.” “there is only one way to find out”Last time they overheated it, a hose popped off the motor Granted they were using it in the summer, 3200 rpm and some other factors but I did install the hose that ended up being the “fuse”
It looks like the fan is chewed up on the edges - and a 60 series fan is real tight fit In the smaller shroud. Plus the fan flexes at high rpms- just throwing out observations here maybe not getting proper air flow....(distance from radiator)…not enough room to pull air just a WAG
the 74 was engineered for the 1.5 wasn’t it? I had to drill new radiator holes @3/4” out for the radiator to have proper fan clearance for the 2f with fan clutch. I think 1.5” is the minimum fan/rad space. I know you have done several of these so ur aware but I see the old factory located radiator holes were used here. I’ve been told by others more knowledgeable..the fan needs to be 1/2 in the shroud and 1/2 out to allow fan to function properly
But they drove it without the hose, and coolant (?), asked if it “would make it?.” “We’ll see.”
Did the original motor build include rings/pistons, cam shaft/valves? If so, how was the motor broke in? Hopefully not by the 2.5hrs @ 3200rpm.
Some folks kill motors....Yes. Full rebuilt motor.
reading the plot to this 40 reminded me of a guy in HS who came from a wealthy family - got a competition ski boat for his 15th birthday, which he blew the engine in..then daddy fixed that and not long after he sunk it with a load of bikini teens when he forgot to put the drain plug back in.Some folks kill motors....

It’s hard to tell….
Realize the popped hose started the path of destruction.
I think you have all those possibilities:
Warped block
Bad head
Head Bolts loosened
Question…sorry if this is dumb.
was this an MLS head gasket? Were both the head/block machined correctly for MLS and smooth?
Agreed this would be my main concern as well. It doesn't take long to eat up the main bearings. The biggest worry I have is prolonged use with the coolant in the oil damaging the bottom end.
