I replaced the cracked and brittle grab handles with Paracord handles, secured by high strength fasteners

I cant wait to do this. what brands did you use, how much did you buy, and how much did it set you back?

I bought three boxes of sound deadening, each box is 36 sq ft, so 108 sq ft total. I bought five boxes of sound insulating foam, each box is 20 sq ft, so 100 sq ft total. I can't say how much I've used, because I'm not finished. I'm still planning on treating the doors, the rear quarter panels, and the rear hatch and tailgate. The quantity that I have should be enough, based on some rough measurements that I did beforehand, but it's possible I'll need to buy more to finish. I can't remember the cost, but it's all Noico brand from Amazon. The sound deadening is 80 mil and the closed cell foam is 315 mil.

Cheers

Awesome. Thanks for sharing.

I'm about halfway through the installation of the new carpet. The kit from ACC has a mass backing and is molded to the shape of the floor, but needs to be trimmed at the edges and needs holes cut, or in this case drilled with a hole saw, to accommodate bolting the seats in place and passing wiring harnesses through

I installed several bundles of wires while the interior was removed. Today, I added some Sumitomo connectors to terminate most of that wiring. An explanation for each connector will have to wait until the wiring is finalized.

Interesting, input sound deadening inside the tail gate, on the back side of the exterior metal. Did the carpet fit well back on the tailgate? How’s the sound performance?

I wanted to cover the outer skin as well, but it was basically impossible with the small access hatches. When I get to the doors, I'll cover both the inner and outer skins with sound deadening. The carpet fit well. I needed to push down with more force on a few of the clips to get them to fully seat, because of the added thickness of the sound deadening, but that was all. That's why I didn't put the sound insulating foam on the tailgate, the carpet wouldn't have fit.

As for the sound performance, this is the current state of my driver's seat

So I'll have to get back to you on that :hillbilly:

I installed a CoverCraft VelourMat in "Cocoa" over my dash, to cover the few cracks that I already have and to hopefully prevent future cracks as well.

The bump on the right is the GPS antenna for my head unit. The installation instructions require it to be installed on a relatively flat part of the dash, so I decided against relocating it.

I removed the speakers from the front doors. It turns out they were totally blown, the speaker cones were completely detached from the frames

I added sound deadening to both the inner and outer skins, sound blocking foam to the outer skins, and ½” thick 6½” diameter spacers to the speaker holes of the front doors.

I modified the speaker holes on the door cards to fit the spacers

Finally, I added some Infinity 6532ix speakers to both front doors

I added the another pair of Infinity 6532ix speakers to the rear doors, using the same method as the front doors, with one extra step. I had to enlarge the opening in the inner door skin to accept the bigger speakers

I fabricated some brackets out of aluminum to mount new Infinity 4032cfx speakers in the lower dash

The speaker on the driver's side barely cleared the metal plate that the trim panel sits against, but both dash speakers fit

Looks slick! Which LEDs did you go with? Are those the warmer white LEDs? Did the original bulbs have those green filters on them? Looks nice.

Thanks. For the backlighting of the gauges, I used these Philips Warm White LEDs, 4 LEDs in total. For all of the dummy lights, I used whatever the Definitive LED Thread for 80s recommended.

I'm in the process of installing a Nardi steering wheel. It's physically mounted, but the wiring for the horn is proving to be tricky, and will take some thinking and a few parts to solve

Follow-up: The horn is wired in. Wiring was covered in this thread.
