Thanks Dusty!

Can you also post a pic of the front seat belts and where they come into the seat?

Best,

Shane

Shane, pretty sure the front seat on our 78 pig "Rusty" is original; had it redone in the past as there had been a squirell nesting in it:eek: many many pecan and acorn shells inside the seat itself!:hillbilly:still has the working electric buzzer and is the kind that the seatbelt comes through the "sitting" part of the seat; a real PIA when it drops down beneath the seat:mad: the rear seats upholstery is identical to your repro as was the front..........will only need to redo the front as the rear is very nice and has survived 30 years, hopefully will survive another.........I appreciate all the work you have put into this and just happy we have a good quality durable original looking cover available.........will never ever have a show quality pig; but kinda like it to look sorta nice:hillbilly: got 4 daughters and a wife.....:whoops:

Toyota calls them, "Seat Cushion Cover Assembly" or "Seat Back Cover Assembly". Just depends on if it's for the top or bottom;)

And from initial and continuing posts in this thread it would appear that nomenclature used for one thing by someone, does not mean the same thing to someone else....

people call these seat covers as well <---- this is a link

My understanding of a seat cover is a component that slip-fits over your existing seat assembly that does not require any more effort to install other than pulling it over the ratty seat and securing it with the provided elastic ties or pull cord.

Is this what you are selling Shane?

If I am perpetuating confusion on this issue, I am sorry, and it was not my intention. I have spoken with Shane about this specific project many times and was under the impression that he was not making a slip-fit over your existing material and tie in place seat cover, but rather, the fabric that you would need to remove from your existing seat frame and install over the foam and spring assembly in the seat, and fasten in place with hog rings, etc, just like the factory material.

Exactly.

Shane is offering what the factory put on when they built the vehicle, not a cheap cover that would cover what you already have. It is a factory replacement.

I only mentioned what Toyota calls it.

I've got a pretty decent original 78 front bench in my 71...is the same material and physical appearance as the Kansas 55/Dusty's image. All other pigs I own or have pilfered from have had the same "cross hatched Dusty vinyl"........the basket weave appears to be an anomaly:beer:

My 7/75 appears as well the same as "Dustys"

Wow, I've never seen such a pissing contest down here in the good 'ole pig section.

1) Those are nice seat covers Shane, and the exact pattern that was in my 11/72 pig. Yes they are indeed pricey, but most nice things are.

2) Yes you can probably get some made for cheaper if you were very diligent, or knew someone in the industry. This is the nicest off the shelf I've seen though.

Let's face it, these trucks are hard enough to find parts for - lets not run off people who are making parts to be "right" in a pig knowledge contest.

I tend to keep a very liberal moderating style down here, let's keep it friendly. You can go up to that silly chat section and bitch to your hearts content if need be :-)

Great job on the replacement covers, I think the price is right in line. For those that want to save I just notice Spector has a replacement cover that includes new foam for about $500 front and another $500 plus for the rear and there is no mention of pattern. So for all your hard work and research I applaud you Shane.

I have not seen SORs 55 covers in person, but by looking at their 40 series covers, I doubt the attention to detail is there. I understand the allure of a historically accurate restoration vehicle, but for my buck, I'll stick with the local mexican upholstery shop or thick mats of dog hair and mud.

However, I'd wager that even at the high price for the covers, aatlas1x probably doesn't get sufficient profit. Small production runs and the ability to tightly control quality costs money.

and your mother was a hamster and your father smelled of elderberries! I think a good rule of thumb is that all bickering is allowed if it ends in a monty python quote.

While looking through some pics, here is another clearly showing the color and texture of what I had made.

Shane,

Keep up the good work - I totally agree w/ tucker74 on the value of what you're going to be offering the pig community. If you want a close to OEM replacment and are willing to spend a little coin these are the s***z. If they're not what you're looking for I'm sure that there are plenty of 72 Vega bucket seats out there that are dying for a home. I'm not trying to be a snob - I just appreciate all your efforts and the end results.
